A staple of South Korea's electronic scene, Mogwaa makes his long-awaited debut on Peggy Gou's Gudu label.
Traditionally as effective turning his hand to ambient as he is jungle, ‘From Above’ sees Mogwaa focusing on romantic, mid-tempo dance tracks, dripping with texture and feeling.
'From Above''s title track sets the scene for the rest of the EP, pairing ascending mallets with watery pads, while ‘Spatial Bliss’ was inspired by memories of Mogwaa’s past life playing guitar in bands, taking rhythmic influence from jazz-funk, reggae, latin and afrobeat. ‘Fizz’, meanwhile, is built around a synthesised Gayageum, a traditional Korean string instrument, while EP closer ‘Cloudride’ rides into the sunset with the dreaminess turned up to 11.
