50 Ways To Stop Time
03:50
|

Take off your watch and leave it at home. Dive under water, pretend you’re alone. 50 ways to stop time, it’s so easy it should be a crime. Hide in bed imagining they need you. Drink champagne until you think it’s true. Time, what have you done? Time, what can you show? Go west until the sun hasn’t risen yet, go west until it hasn’t shone.

All Of The Flowers

Uh oh, I’m in trouble. I’ve come to see most people agree it’s truly unforgivable. It was dark outside (lamp light shining bright). Who would’ve thought that I wouldn’t get caught when I went to your yard and I stole all of the flowers? You could place a bet I’d be filled with regret but it’s not a story or an allegory: I have a sense of duty to ephemeral beauty. I’m not made of metaphors, apologies or excuses. So many uses for flowers; I was there for hours.

Winston and Sarah

Winston my darling, what do you see? I see a bird, up in a tree. Winston my darling, how can it be? I don’t know, Sarah, that’s just what I see. Winston my sweetheart, come here to me! I’m on my way, that’s soon where I’ll be. Winston my sweetheart, who do I see? It’s not the bird, Sarah, I’m sure that it’s me.

Afterlife Crisis

Up the backs of doors, draw little lines for passing time. In your dresser drawer: some Polaroids, a scattered shrine. The prettiest pictures are the ones you’ve never seen. They’re the long invisible, the silent in-between. Hoard them like your memories, name them like your sins. Dig me up like buried treasure, that’s where this life begins. Easy to ignore, unread newspapers March to July. Hidden beneath the bedroom floor, a shoebox labeled “Burn before you die”. Serious as a heart attack, I’ll take you to my grave. There’s no looking back, never was one to behave.

Negative Space

Just waking up, early morning sun coming in through eyelids. Lit from behind, let me trace you in my mind. Cut you out like a paper doll, set your figure to the side ‘cause it’s the Negative space that enthralls me. Break from character, space between words, silence between laughs. Let me rest my mind, let me rest my mind, let me rest my eyes. Here you are.

Turbulence

The same plane that flew at 35,000 feet will land safely here. Biscoff and crying, the flight attendant’s sympathetic eyes. “Call me when you get there.” It’s late, but I want to hear your voice. Flying is risky; Turbulence expected ahead. Maybe you should kiss me in case we wind up

Carney’s House Party Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Carney's House Party's debut cassette, The Negative Space EP, is Melissa Kramer Cresswell's teen zine dream come true. Nostalgic and mature, wistful and serious, off-key and precise, Melissa's songs are at home with early K Records, The Magnetic Fields (pre-69 Love Songs), and Robert Smith’s home demos for Head On The Door. Low-fi, layered, a little dark, a little funny. ... more
