Lullaby for the Lost

Lullaby for the Lost

Lullaby for the Lost completes an evolution saxophonist Donny McCaslin started nearly 10 years earlier, combining the finesse of mainstream jazz with the buzzy textures of post-Radiohead-and-Nine Inch Nails rock. Sometimes the results are grand and dystopic (“Wasteland”, the title track). Other times they’re almost playful, albeit in a slightly threatening way (“Tokyo Game Show”, “Blond Crush”). In every case, McCaslin provides an instrumental journey that captures the uneasy futurism of vintage science fiction while remaining tapped into an ever-evolving conversation about the possibilities of electric jazz.
