Do you think I need permission to be here? Should you really interfere With the vibe The divine Presence of life Why you trying To put out my fire To deny Me Let us take a moment to be clear Take a breath in of this atmosphere And discern Try to learn Communicate And affirm Why you yearn To harm Me Just let me be I don’t want to fight But I’ll defend my life So whatchu trying to do With that trigger inside you I’m not afraid to die But not today Walang hiya I wanna live too What is it that you really fear? Multiple realities exist here It’s okay Many ways To do this thing We are made From the same Earth You and me When you look into the mirror Is your love truly sincere Or do you look away From the pain When it stings Who’s to blame For the shame That goes Unseen Just set it free There are many paths But you cannot turn back Once violence exudes It’s poison inside you When you cross the line Beyond compassion’s eye The pain will consume Your vision and blind you War is everywhere But baby don’t you dare Let it live inside you Or let it divide you From your real wealth Your truest self Let ancestor guide you ✵✵✵ WTF you lookin at (like that) Who u talkin to (like that) Get the fuck out my face (like that) Don’t you take Another step closer You don’t wanna Come for me motherfuckaaaaa! ✵✵✵ Do you think I need permission to be here Let us take a moment to be clear What is it that you really fear When you look into the mirror Lyrics by Elenna Canlas ©2023

2020 Vision 04:45
We’ve been going, going, grinding, pushing On so hard that we don’t really know why anymore But now the world has shut down completely It’s got us breaking down to the core If the pandemic is a portal Where will it take us? What changes will we see? There are no answers, only more questions Accept the invitation and go in deep But for real tho I’m not alright Why does taking on new forms feel so painful? Ripping apart every part of who we think we are As old versions of ourselves die We are growing in every direction from the heart Collective visioning, shapeshifting, Disillusion is revealing the truth There is no going back to fucking normal So ask yourself, whatchu gonna do? Wut? I’m losing my mind Trauma Grief Trust Belief Move it through your body baby Clear the way so you can see We all going through it baby Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed I am alive Lyrics by Elenna Canlas ©2023

I want to be who you never got to be But who you always were all along I want to dance anytime and anywhere With anyone to my favorite song I want to make beautiful things with my hands And grow a garden to feed everyone Free I want to be fearless And tender with my fire I want to stand up for myself To walk away when it’s time I want to find the words To feel forgiveness in my bones Free I will release the blame As your mind fades From today until your last day I will break the curse Passed on as you gave birth When you return to the earth I will take your pain And create a new way We will be okay I will look into my face And see a reflection of you Free Lyrics by Elenna Canlas ©2023

about

LUPA: 'earth, land' in Tagalog; 'she-wolf' in Latin; 'forget, lost' in Indonesian; 'magnifying glass' in Spanish

Lupa is a testament to life through the portals of grief, joy, memory, and presence, channeled by the creative vision of singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and collaborator Elenna Canlas. Building sonic worlds with influences from electro and psychedelic funk, global roots and folk traditions, to alt-pop and R&B, the music of Lupa is woven from journaling, poetry, folklore, and life lessons deeply rooted in community, collaboration, truth-telling, and the ongoing reflections of a traveling soul. ᜎᜓᜉ

Elenna Canlas, based on Lenape and Canarsie lands in New York City, is a transformative force in music culture. With a career spanning over a decade performing on renowned stages and recording in celebrated studios worldwide, she has supported a multitude of artists and bands including Cochemea, treya lam, Allison Russell, Lollise, Xenia Rubinos, Kirsty Rock, Sinkane, Underground System, and Easy Star All-Stars as a keyboardist, synthesist, percussionist, vocalist, musical director, and producer. She was a facilitator for OneBeat, a cultural exchange program run by Found Sound Nation and the Department of State (which was terminated earlier this year by our current administration), and is an alumna of their 2022 OneBeat Sahara fellowship, which included musician culture bearers from the USA and the Maghreb and Sahel regions of North Africa. Elenna was also a Steering Wheel member of the former Brooklyn-based grassroots organization Sound Mind Collective and the co-founder of Womxn Musicians Forum, both independent artist-driven circles that aimed to cultivate movement & growth through community.
