The Jolenpa (Bodhisattva) Gen Nyima
YamantakaGen Nyima. In Tibetan, the word ‘Gen’ means ‘teacher’ and it is an honorific word that we use to address monks. To call them by their name alone is considered very rude in Tibetan culture, so we address all monks as ‘Gen’. In this case, this senior monk’s name was Nyima and so we addressed him simply as Gen Nyima. As time went on, people started to address him honorifically as Jolenpa Gen Nyima. ‘Jolenpa’ is the Tibetan word for Bodhisattva. They called him Jolenpa because they believed
