I like to think of finishing the raw edges of a quilt – to be a little like adding the ribbon to a package wrapped with pretty paper – or the frame on a painting. The project is still pretty – but finishing the raw edges make it complete. Try it… but first save this for later!  This creates a quilt binding that appears 3/4” wide or so on the front. Be sure your freemotion quilting motifs or quilt border piecing is not going to be ruined with so much covered up, or, trim your quilt with excess batting around the edges.   The faux piping color strips are 1 3/4” and the binding color strips are 1 1/2”. Sew each color to length, then join the two colors, offsetting any seams.   Press towards the binding color, this will help create a ditch for the final step.   Apply this to the back of the quilt with the contrast piping color up with a 1/4” seam.
