I love all dogs. This board is about dogs and dog art and dog stuff. Here are some dogs that I think are beautiful. Many dogs are languishing in shelters so I hope people look there first when they are thinking about getting a dog. Most of the beauty is in the soulful eyes, the wag of the tail, the shimmy shimmy of full body happiness. You never have to pay a lot for that. It comes free with most dogs if you are the right person.

The American Water Spaniel was bred in the 19th-century United States for hunting ducks. It has a soft mouth for retrieving, and a light frame for riding in boats. It is now the state dog of Wisconsin and is rarely seen outside North America. The Water Spaniel is good with children, handles cold weather well, adapts nicely to urban living, trains easily, and gets on well with other dogs, but requires a lot of exercise.

The Black and Tan Coonhound is believed to have descended from the Talbot Hound, which was known in England as far back as the 11th century, and the Bloodhound. In America, the Black and Tan Coonhound evolved from the Foxhounds that possessed treeing instinct and the black and tan color pattern. Owned by scouts and Indian fighters during the late 1700's, the Black and Tan was the first coonhound to be considered a separate breed from the American Foxhound.

Rigel, a big black Newfoundland dog, belonging to First Officer Murdoch, saved the passengers in Life Boat #4. They were drifting in front of the Carpathia, too weak to call out. The dog had swam in the icy water for three hours, probably looking for his master. He was swimming in front of the lifeboat and alerted the Carpathia crew by barking. The boat might not have been rescued if not for the sharp barking of Rigel.
