Day of Reminiscing!

What a lovely day so far! Started with a much needed massage to repair my sleeping sitting up aches n pains. Then finally got out to have lunch with mostly professional retirees today at Astros on Pembina! Awesome to see some years gone by bosses, Gerry and Craig, plus many departmental coworkers! Yep Nestor with the ladies!

Now don't ask for the names as many are ooopsie I've forgotten or not sure of due to age differences!

Left side.

Right side.

Now back to sewing my pillows!

A Fun Day Out!

Today we went for a drive to Perrault Falls to see there poor barren looking house - locals are shaking their heads at the lack of landscaping and sorry Sylvia and Len had left.  Also their neighbour gave them six willow cuttings that sprout very fast, are lovely shapes and grow fast and full.  Actually the property is back on the market again.  We had lunch at the Whiskey Jack Tavern with other friends and held baby Sophia before nap time.  Then we took the long way home and I got to see the back country instead of just Hwy #1.  Once home we planted the willow cuttings at the back of their property, finished planting the last shrub, finished the landscaping fabric and red mulch plus planted the last of the flowers.  All were watered well and hopefully that's the last of the heavy duty yard work this stay!!!

Friday n Saturday

Friday July 6th

WOW what a difference their yard is from last year!  Beautiful!  They've done lots to it.  Last year I helped prepare the front corner and along the garage flower bed, harvested and planted some of the flowers, ferns and refenced the centre garden area to allow for some working room.  She also had help from her family members too.  Then we marked, loosened and dug the holes for the trees before quitting for the night.

Only 2 ferns didn't survive.

So far the deer don't climb stairs.

Her daughter helped frame this bed in.

I dug out the rock bed and helped plant this one.  Awesome to see it so lovely.

From back of the garage to the house.

We refenced this 2 feet from the garden for ease when working there.

Saturday, July 7th

This morning we planted the trees they harvested earlier, pounded in half the posts and laid the black cloth.  Then we went to B&Bs for a lovely smorg breakfast (my birthday gift too).  Later this evening if it's cooler we'll finish the posts, edgings and fence them in so the deer can't get to them.  And here's what Sylvia is trying to finish off inside too along with some quilting!

Now this year's project - here will be the new privacy hedge.

Awesome!  It's already spoken for.

And this one she did earlier.

Well we went outside after 7 to finish off the posts, fenced in the trees and quit for the night - only one post went 6 inches in before hitting rock and wouldn't go the remaining 6 inches.  Yep I got my workout today!  Thankfully it was quite breezy so felt cooler!  Now we're relaxing!  Tomorrow going visiting and picking up the last tree for this hedge.  Don't know if we'll have the energy to plant it, anchor the landscaping fabric and top off with mulch!  Will see.  Would LOVE to have the finished pics too!

Don't make me laugh or I miss the centre and chip off pieces!

More Cleaning!

Gosh these blooming trees sure make the walks more enjoyable and not minding the many interruptions for Katsu!  Looking for shaded streets that's for sure!

Well I thought I better finish sweeping the brickwork as he brought in much debri yesterday.  So now it's fairly clean until more falls but the buildup is gone. I filled the can so covered it for Harold to deal with.  Talk about twigs - added lots more to the fire pit.

View from the house into the backyard.

Today's second half cleaning.

View from the backyard to the house.

So ready to go in and called Katsu - YOWSERS -  there he was just covered and this time I stayed outside to clean him up!!!!

Katsu was cleaning up too!

Just some from him!

I'm ready to go back to bed after our 3 km walk and his 6am wakeup just to go downstairs and back to sleep under the table!  Not fair!!!!!

Catchup!

Monday - 26th

It's only 7:30 pm and I'm barely staying awake.  Guess that 6.6 km walk this morning in the awesome sunny conditions really zapped my energy.  Even the pups were outside most of the afternoon and are napping.  I'm scared to do so as the last time Wheeler chewed my expensive flip flops.  I'm having trouble identifying these two unless standing side by side - Wheeler's taller.

Tuesday - 27th

Another lovely day and a chance to visit with excoworkers.  Started off picking Barb Bednarski up from work for lunch at Santa Lucia.  Then we headed to the Winter Club for Mike's retirement party.  Boy was I ever tempted to say a couple of things but kept quiet and just laughed at various comments that were the best of YEARS past.  See he joined our office way back in the 80s as a very young step student and I watched as his career advanced within the Department to Assistant Deputy Minister before finishing his career as Policy Branch Director again.  He has many plans of health, exercise and family ventures and who knows what's in the future - hey he's young enough to play awhile and who knows maybe start a new career!

Here's Mike with a farewell gift to his Managers.  Passing on the hockey sticks for the Christmas Eve shimmy game.  Sandy was not impressed with this exercise!

This evening I moved downstairs to watch Nashville Predators vs Winnipeg Jets and another firelace with a huge TV and the pups horsing around again!

Wednesday - 28th

Well Edna and I walked the Assiniboine River Trail to the end - Arlington Street - and back!  WOW this is the most we've walked outdoors this winter 9.17 km today.

And yeah we went to the  Oakwood Cafe for our usual and later to Tall Grass Prairie Bakery for a cinnamon bun each.  Yummy!  Then back to  the dogs with a quick stop at the car wash!

And this is what I'm living with for another week!  Kids!  And Bella just naps through the shenanigans!

First time seeing this!

Horsing around again!
Jake finding a safe spot!

Bella ignoring it all!

Apartment Maintenance!!!

I am getting upset as my apartment  maintenance is dragging on 4 weeks now and I don't know if they are finished or not.  The only thing finished by the looks of it is the hallway ceiling.  The sink is on and water is on but I'm not sure if it needs a fine bead of sealing around or not.  There are items left behind and work not done yet.  SHEESH!!!

Then today I'm back and can't get into my own apartment as the replaced not locking door knob IS LOCKED and none of the keys work until we fought with Betty's passkey and it opened.  DAMN IT!!!!  I sent an email to have all this completed by Monday period!

Feeling Accomplished!

What do you do when the hired carpenter isn't able to come and do the desired work?  Well you do it yourself by removing the small cabinet that was way too high over the toilet, removing the trim, adding braces to the back so it can be lowered onto the wallboard and hung back up with Len and my help holding it while Sylvia anchored it in place.  Then you go out and buy ready made cabinets and make them fit!!!!  Yep that's what Len told Sylvia to do and we promptly left to purchase bathroom towel cabinets (yes 2) and assembled them with some minor carpentry by Sylvia and we made them to fit the cubby hole.  So now she can sorta put her bathroom back to order.  Just some additional shelving cut to fit the double deep cupboard we made, 2 towel bars to be hung and trim put back and VOILA it'll be fixed up!!!!
