Churchill Bound - Aug 4th - Day 1

Okay NO WIFI or Rogers service till Churchill so the reason for mad postings now!

Slept uncomfortably till 3am when the sky started lightening for sunrise!

On the east side of the train.

On the west side of the train.

Cat napped another hour or so snd baggie breakfast 7am.

Churchill - Day 1

Now we are backing up and switching tracks, then backing up some more!  Not a good idea after breakfast!

The train has pulled into Churchill station! Waiting to unload! There's 93 on our two buses, one from eastern Manitoba and one from Brandon that joined into one on the train, that cancelled their dining car and extra staff so The Hub in Thompson put together boxed and bagged suppers and breakfasts for us! That was a long ttttrrrrrriiiiiipppppppp!

Just waiting at the Legion having morning coffee n muffins till our rooms are ready 3ish. Then we were treated to Bannock wrapped smokies and fries by the staff for lunch. The tours were posted and NO early mornings for us two! Now listening to the Fugitives perform while waiting for our room designations and transport there. Apparently the polar bears are around so caution outside! Also some ladies were taken to the river and the belugas were right there! Can't wait!

Today by accident we met up with Florence and Roy's friends right Ruth from Mesa and left Darlene from BC! WOW!!!

Lovely evening listening to some old time tunes and music PLUS watching some awesome dancers! Even enticed two couples from another tour to maybe follow "The Fugitives" play elsewhere on tour!

Florence's friends, Darlene and Ruth.

75% were most times dancing.

Stomperfest! - August 31st

What a wet n wild start Saturday morning!  As we neared Gladstone the rain died down and the sky cleared some, even the sun peaking out!  It was awesome to see Wayne at Kick Ass Country Store in Plumas for our quilting fix and a quick visit with Pat Orr.

We're here again out in the back woods at Reedy Creek for the 16th Annual Asham's Stomperfest for the day, featuring Michelle Wright this evening!  First picture is of one of the teams in the World Aboriginal Square Dance Competition held at this time!

Watching from mid afternoon to supper the various ages of The Lorne Monkman World Jugging Championships.  We took another walk around the camper sites and out to the gate before retuning.  Saw the company setting up for fireworks and the fire truck arriving.

Now the Metis Club Traditional Dancers are performing and free dancing before evening performances.

We enjoyed a yummy pickeral fry supper too!  Awesome entertainment started 7:30 pm from Michelle Wright!  And listening to the dancing music afterwards, but not me!

What an awesome finale for us at Stomperfest! See Arnold Asham invited all previous Asham Stompers to perform at a reunion dance this evening!  This was the first time for some 30 plus on stage at once.  I felt sorry for the band as they kept jigging and square dancing for at least half an hour!

Arnold Asham dancing too!

At the end they were accompanied by fireworks stage side, then a spectacular background fireworks too!

Lightening storms joining the fireworks!

The fireworks spider is coming to getcha!

A group photo of all for all!
Thank you Asham Stompers!!!

It was sooo loud and close that my legs threatened to collapse on me, heart pounding, some guy made room so I could brace myself against the table.  Now if that wasn't enough, a lightening storm joined the display.  Edna promplty started gathering our supplies and off we scampered in the dark to the car at 10:40 pm and on our way home through a half hour heavy downpour and drizzle off n on, me getting home 2:15 am!  Glad I've nothing on tomorrow!
