Kyoto-based sound artist / percussionist / Array Mbira player kita kouhei's 15th solo album "Idealism Ⅲ" has been released!

“Experimental ambient world using various percussion instruments on the theme of fusion with ethnic music"

Idealism III” (Idealism III), the 15th album by Kita Kouhei.
It is a sequel to the 10th “Idealism” and the 11th “Idealism II”. This album also places emphasis on the “intervals” of sound space, maximizing the atmosphere of sound decay and reverberation, while expressing an experimental ambient world that combines electronics and acoustic sounds.

The sound is pleasantly layered with the watery tones of ArrayMbira, delicate and warm kalimba, analog synths clothed in cloudy textures, old tape noises, and field recordings of everyday scenes.

In addition, this work is a new attempt to fuse “ethnic music” and “ambient music”. Utilizing his sensitivity and skills as a percussionist, he features drums, cajón, djembe, and other instruments, allowing the audience to enjoy the sound of various percussions.

kita kouhei Profile:

Born in 1976, a musician, percussionist, and Array Mbira player living in Kyoto. An artist who creates a unique sound landscape that fuses live musical instruments and electronic music by making full use of the piano that he has been familiar with since childhood, the aesthetic sensibility of paintings that he has always spent with, and the skills of professional percussionists. He also works on commercials, documentary programs, avant-garde stage performances and music for art events.


■ 『民族音楽との融合をテーマに様々な打楽器を駆使した実験的アンビエントの世界』

北航平の15枚目となるアルバム「Idealism III（観念論III）」
10th『Idealism』、11th『Idealism II』の続編となる本作は、これまでのシリーズと同様に、音空間の「間」に重きを置いて、音の減衰や余韻を楽しむ空気感を最大限に生かしつつ、エレクトロニクスとアコースティックサウンドを融合した実験的なアンビエントの世界を表現している。

トレードマークとなっている水のような音色を奏でるアレイムビラをはじめ、繊細で温かみを感じるカリンバ、曇った質感を纏うアナログシンセ、古いテープノイズ、水の音や鳥の声、日常の風景などを切り取ったフィールドレコーディングが心地良く重なるサウンド。

また、本作は、新たな試みとして、「民族音楽」と「アンビエント」の融合に挑戦しており、打楽器奏者としての感性や技術を活かし、ドラム・カホン・ジャンベなどをフィーチャーし、様々なパーカッションの音色や響きを楽しめるのも聴きどころのひとつ。


■ 北航平プロフィール

京都市在住の音楽家、打楽器奏者、アレイムビラ奏者、猫廃人。

幼少の頃よりピアノと絵を始める。17歳でドラムを始め、35歳までプロの打楽器奏者として活動。その後サウンドアーティストに転向、39歳でなぜか世界15カ国以上でCDが発売されるという不思議なデビューを果たす。これまでに全15枚のアルバムをリリース。

その他、3人の音楽家（北航平・高山奈帆子・ミムラシンゴ）によるユニットcoconoeでは、高山奈帆子の神秘的なボーカルやコーラスをフィーチャーした、実験的でジャズテイストも感じる「歌ものアンビエントサウンド」を聴かせる。これまでに2枚のアルバムをリリース。

自然音やノイズを用いて曇ったアンビエントサウンド、様々な打楽器や生活音を用いた不規則なリズム、少し暗く少し美しく少し切ない感情表現などを融合した、どこか抽象画のような音風景が特徴。

また、ドラマやCM・ドキュメンタリー番組、舞台やアートイベントなどの音楽も手掛け、第51 回ギャラクシー賞CM部門選奨受賞。

現在、創作活動とそれを邪魔するかわいい猫との共存を模索中。
