We're all aware that there are two separate continuities between the eponymous Wonder Woman series and every other New 52 Amazing Amazon adventure, right? Sensational Comics for August, 2013

I'll talk about all those likely cheesy Trinity War books I'll probably still buy in a minute, but I have something to say first. I'm looking at these Arkham City action figures, along with the Infinite Crisis Atomic Wonder Woman statue, and I simply find it all friggin' repugnant. It's like Juggalos have taken over the design aesthetic of DC Comics. Generations to come will laugh at how vulgar and stupid we were for putting up with this crap. Just because super-heroes have gone mainstream doesn't mean it's okay to pander to literally the lowest common denominator of all possible audiences, and will either drown in fail sauce or push the entire medium back into the grimiest ghetto of popular culture alongside furries and the oeuvre of V. C. Andrews' ghost writer.

The amazing original graphic novel from the ALL-STAR SUPERMAN creative team of writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely is back in a new deluxe edition hardcover, that includes a gallery of preliminary art that’s never been published before! Ultraman, Owlman, Power Ring, and Johnny Quick rule their world without mercy or opposition, until the sudden appearance of Superman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League! Realties clash as the Justice League travels to an alternate reality to face off against distorted mirror images of themselves… This Deluxe Edition features a new cover by Frank Quitely, plus previously unpublished sketch material and more.
Wonder Woman had to be in this, because she's right there on the cover, but for the life of me I cannot recall what role she played in the proceedings. Morrison was notoriously poor in his handling of the Amazing Amazon in JLA, so confess some serious reservations about the long threatened Earth One graphic novel.

Welcome to New Genesis! Wonder Woman makes her first visit to Orion’s homeworld and comes face to face with the Highfather...and sees the strange hold he has over his uncontrollable son!
I'm not entirely comfortable with Kirby's entire Fourth World getting annexed by the New 52 Wonder Woman.
JUSTICE LEAGUE #22

Art and cover by IVAN REIS and JOE PRADO
1:25 Variant cover by BRETT BOOTH and NORM RAPMUND
1:00 B&W Variant cover by IVAN REIS and JOE PRADO

TRINITY WAR, the action-mystery event of the summer, begins with a full-length epic adventure! The death of a hero ignites a violent war among the Justice Leagues! It’s League vs. League vs. League as an impending darkness approaches the DC Universe. But the truth behind it all will lead to an evil that threatens every hero on the planet. And what does the Secret Society of Super-Villains have to with this? Everything.

There's no way I'm buying that a war between the three Leagues was in DC's plans when they announced "Trinity War" over a year ago. Perhaps it was going to be a war between Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, all depicted on the cover of The New 52 FCBD Special Edition? Maybe it was that trio versus the Trinity of Sin comprised of Pandora, the Phantom Stranger and (puh-leez) the Question? Maybe it was supposed to involve Justice League International, or maybe their reasonably well selling book was axed because it was later determined to be in the way? Personally, I think the concept was as half baked as the New 52 in general, and in working things out en route, came up with a bigger story for this to simply lead into. Therefore, I expect that this will suck.
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #6

TRINITY WAR CHAPTER 2! The War of the Justice Leagues continues as one hero is arrested and another goes rogue. Who is responsible for the evil that has infected the League? And who is the true killer? Only the Question knows the answer...
I'm really struggling with how stupid making the Question a mystical character is. Nice prominent spot for the Atom, and I dig Pandora's passivity amidst this chaos. It'll be interesting to see how the Justice League relates to Martian Manhunter and his team. I guess that coffin on the cover of the last issue meant something after all. Good that the JLofA will get field tested on their secret reason for existing straight away, rather than stringing us along endlessly on the conflict.
JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #22

TRINITY WAR CHAPTER 3! A member of the Justice League defects to Justice League Dark. But what does Constantine know about this murder that he isn’t telling? And what dark secret does one of our Leaguers hold that could turn the tide of this Justice League War?

No one seriously cares about how JLDark matches up with the other two teams, but Lemire would be wise to use their magic angle to spin out of this event hard. Not A.J. Lieberman stripmining Hush hard, but there's an opportunity there. Just please don't have Vic Sage join the team as their Fox Mulder/Lone Gunman.

TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA #2

As “TRINITY WAR” erupts and battle lines are drawn, Pandora finds herself standing alone against The Secret Society of Super-Villains!
In case you missed it, the SSoSV will likely figure into an event unto themselves, given their build-up. Wonder if their role in those last issues of Savage Hawkman will figure into this? I don't see any Amazing Amazon adversaries anywhere, which hurts my interest.
CONSTANTINE #5

• Who is the one person dangerous enough to use Kryptonite against Superman?
I don't know, but it would be nice if somebody on the most powerful team in comics would punch that guy. Ivan Reis' Cyborg is extra--ordinary.

• We’ve seen the history Wonder Woman shares with Ares — but what does the God of War have planned for her future?
Diana stole the power of full unaided flight from Donna Troy, the parentage of Zeus from Cassie Sandsmark, and now the early ties to Ares from Nubia? What a role model. Nothing says heroine like sloshing through a puddle of blood of your own making.

• The new Dr. Light is coming for Solstice!
• Guest-starring the Suicide Squad!
Going from Booth to Barrows is certainly jarring, and you'd think the guy had his fill of Titans last time. Poor decision. Also notice that Cassie is basically wearing a Troia variant costume now. No imagination.
DEATHSTROKE #18
Written by JUSTIN JORDAN
Art by EDGAR SALAZAR and SCOTT HANNA
Cover by EDUARDO PANSICA and EBER FERREIRA
On sale MARCH 13 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

• Finally! Deathstroke vs. The Teen Titans!
• You want more? You got more, as The Ravagers join the fight!
Seeing a classicist like Jurgens draw the New 52 Titans costumes truly illustrates how dreadful they are. Helspont came off a lot better during his Superman run.

Steve Trevor

TEAM 7 #6
Written by JUSTIN JORDAN
Art by PASCAL ALIXE
Cover by GARY FRANK and CAM SMITH
On sale MARCH 13 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

• In the tale from the recent past, Team 7 is on a mission to rescue Caitlin Fairchild when a team member dies!
• And in the present day, Deathstroke hunts down his former Team 7 partners! But why?
Ladytron vs. Black Canary and Deathstroke vs. Grifter is exactly the sort of thing I wanted to see out of the DC/WS merger, especially with Gary Frank art. I kind of wish I'd read this series, but whenever I see a skinny Amanda Waller, that conflict clear right up.

Donna Troy

• Collects TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #45- 61 and 66-67, NEW TEEN TITANS #38, NEW TEEN TITANS #1-6 and SECRET ORIGINS ANNUAL #3.

• The team battles one of their own for their very survival!
• The relationship of Midnighter and Apollo hits a rough patch when the Amazon-like Zealot joins the team!
I remember when Zealot was another of the multitude of sad Wonder Woman/Red Sonja hybrids, but now the Amazing Amazon is more like her than she is the Princess Diana of old. Stormwatch consisting of analogues of the DC Trinity and three other guys really validates their existence, huh?

Sensational Comics for February, 2013

Wonder Woman
YOUNG ROMANCE: A NEW 52 VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL #1
Written by ANDY DIGGLE, ANN NOCENTI, CECIL CASTELLUCCI, PETER MILLIGAN and others
Art by GENE HA, EMANUELLA LUPPICHINNO, BECKY CLOONAN, PHIL JIMENEZ, SANFORD GREEN and others
Cover by KENNETH ROCAFORT
On sale FEBRUARY 6 • 64 pg, FC, $7.99 US • RATED T

• Romance is in the air in this very special Special!
• Wonder Woman consults Eros himself about her feelings for The Man of Steel.
• Barbara Gordon has always been too busy for romance, but could her role as Batgirl bring her back to the first guy she ever kissed?
• Following the events of “Death in the Family,” how can Catwoman ease Batman’s troubled soul?
• Aquaman makes waves as he treats his wife like a queen for a day.
• From the pages of STORMWATCH, Apollo and Midnighter celebrate Valentine’s Day separately but with each other in mind. Who—or what—stands between them?
• Dick Grayson and the daughter of Lucious Fox meet-cute!
• Plus: Perforated Valentine’s Day cards featuring the stars of these stories!
Not to slut shame, but that's kind of a whore-y pose, and I hate how the suddenly prominent blue makes Wonder Woman seem more complimentary as Superman's squeeze. Hate hate hate this development. Bitching aside, I love the premise of a super-hero valentine special, and it would be hot for Dick Grayson to get his interracial groove on. Then again, it reminds of that story about how Morgan Freeman was schtupping his granddaughter, which dumps a pale of ice water on that.
WONDER WOMAN #17
Written by BRIAN AZZARELLO
Art by TONY AKINS and DAN GREEN
Cover by CLIFF CHIANG
1:25 B&W Variant cover by CLIFF CHIANG
On sale FEBRUARY 20 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

• Plus: The truth about the dreaded First Born is revealed! Woe to the world...

Retailers: This issue will ship with two covers. The variant cover will feature the standard edition cover in a wraparound format.
I hope the simplicity of Orion's silhouette is misleading? With all the armored up heroes in the New 52, Orion is one of the few that such treatment would be appropriate and beneficial. His suit was always a tad too basic.
BATWOMAN #16
Written by J.H. WILLIAMS III and W. HADEN BLACKMAN
Art and cover by J.H. WILLIAMS III
1:25 B&W Variant cover by J.H. WILLIAMS III
On sale FEBRUARY 20 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

Boy, that was a long guest spot.
JUSTICE LEAGUE #17

• What is THE GRID—and what does it mean to expanding the Justice League? This issue is also offered as a combo pack edition with a redemption code for a digital download of this issue.

Retailers: This issue will ship with four covers. Please see the order form for more information.
Whole lotta meh for the Aquaman creative team wrapping their run on one title by launching it in another. Talking out an inevitable-to-be-revealed DarkseidBot MacGuffin in no way ameliorates the JLA getting roughed up in turns by Cheetah, Ocean Master, and the late Peter Graves of Mission: Impossible fame. Nice to hear Steve Skroce is working in the mainstream again, though. I thought the Wachowski siblings had him bound in vinyl in their dungeon.

AQUAMAN #17
Written by GEOFF JOHNS

• With the secrets of Atlantis revealed, Aquaman is confronted by a horrible myth from Atlantis’s past that’s connected to his own. Plus: Mera confronts a longtime enemy.

Retailers: This issue will ship with two covers. The variant cover will feature the standard edition cover in a wraparound format.
I like Pelletier as much as the next guy, but following Ivan Reis is like Cockrum following Byrne on X-Men.

How do you write the onomatopoeia sound Snoopy makes when he does not approve? "Bleah?"

Or more honestly, Kirby's Saddlestitched Brick O' Turd. Here is a master at his lowest ebb, generating misfires, filler, and licensing pap.
DAY OF JUDGMENT TP

I was going to whine about yet another Moore anthology collection, but this one is a beast, and vindicated for the multitude of Wildstorm inclusions.
