Critical Mass was produced on a span of time of 2 years
I aimed for this compilation to focus on heavy industrial rhythmic sounds. There is no drum machines or basslines here, just analog hardware (Mainly Moogs and Make Noise modules, and some obscure devices, the all treated with a bunch of effects units).
The opening title Critical Mass is made of powerful metallic sounds, as if you move very heavy raw material, then come this heavy pulsating slow pounding industrial rhythm, who gives to the title this "cold groove" I intended to give to my music. It's a groove for defectives and rusted machines.
Make Noise, Not War is raw and direct, with these multiple layers of dissonant noises.
The Cynical God continue in that idea of cold groove, with apparently more brightness, but it's a really vicious affair with swirling high pitched unnerving layers of sound.
The Forges Of Vulcan is built around this accidental sound I obtain while experimenting with the Make Noise Strega. That’s a kind of alien distant and distorted voices, on which is slowly coming an obsessive rythm pattern.
The Whip is a pure industrial mayhem. Perhaps, it would have been a hit in the glorious early years of Maschinenfest. But seriously, it's something for dance, apocalyptic dance.. So, dance or I will whip you !!!
Error...Panic...Reboot... is on a tribal mode. New tribalism for post industrial tribes.
Critical Mass is the first of a serie of compilations of studio outtakes, semi-live improvisations, early tracks, all slightly remastered. It is intended to keep the spontaneity of the takes with minimal editing. I hope you will like them as I love to produced them.
