Colorado-based electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Rothschild, aka Northern Form, makes his debut on Anjunachill with a mesmerising four-track EP titled ‘Slow Bloom’.

Having first found his musical roots in folk and blues as a teenager, Andrew was drawn to storytelling through artists such as Iron & Wine, which inspired him to pick up the guitar. Nearly a decade later - and now a seasoned guitarist - he discovered the world of electronic music after hearing Emancipator’s First Snow. That moment sparked the realisation that he could merge two worlds: the organic storytelling of folk and bluegrass with the texture and rhythm of electronic sound.

The EP opens with Two Pines, a homage to his younger self featuring his good friend Tom Yaron on violin. It’s a rare collaboration for Andrew, who usually prefers to compose solo, yet the partnership feels both unexpected and perfectly fitting.

Next comes the title track, Slow Bloom, which serves as the defining moment of the release. Andrew reflects:

“Since then, it’s been a long stretch of experimenting, refining my workflow, building my toolkit, and training my ears. While working on this EP, I realised that process had become second nature. It’s taken time to grow into - a slow bloom - but I finally feel confident and content with where I’ve landed as both a guitarist and producer.”

Cedar & Sage follows, a track that bridges the gap between two worlds: a folk-driven instrumental shaped through intricate sound design and audio manipulation. Long associated with the term “folktronica,” Andrew says this is the first time he feels he’s truly captured the essence of that label.

Closing the EP is Tuned, a quintessential Northern Form track. Originally intended as a collaboration with producer Edamame, the piece ultimately evolved into a solo production. Anchored by the resonant tones of the hang drum - a sound Andrew fell in love with years ago - it has since become a cornerstone of the Northern Form identity.
