Some of this is driven by plant-based ideologies. Some of it is rooted in false beliefs about protein, such that it’s hard on the kidneys, causes weight gain, or is bad for the bones, which are all unequivocally disproven. And some of the hype comes from the food industry, which can create far more profitable products when they don’t use animal protein. Yet, it’s the most essential macronutrient in our diet. As it related to MTHFR mutations, eating more protein can do wonders for minimizing the effects of the mutations, from supporting better moods to better detoxifying. So, do not short yourself on protein if you’re dealing with MTHFR issues. 🥩🍖🍳 I generally recommend women consume a MINIMUM of 0.8 grams of protein per pounds goal bodyweight, and men 1.0 grams, minimum. #cortisol #stress #cortisolcontrol #fatigue #fitness #weightloss #nutritioncoach #personaltrainer #mentalwellness #fitnesstips #fitnessmotivation #GABA #cravings #dopamine #serotonin #mentalfitness #cortisolcoach #wellnesscoach | Tom Nikkola, CSCS | Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach | Facebook

I couldn’t make this more simple or affordable.⭐️⭐️ When you go through trauma, whether it’s emotional, physical, or psychological, your body and brain launch into survival mode. Hormones spike, inflammation rises, and your nervous system becomes hyper-alert. For most people, the body eventually settles down and begins to repair. But if you have an MTHFR gene mutation, that whole process can get stuck. Here’s why. MTHFR helps convert folate (vitamin B9) into a form your body can actually use called methylfolate. This activated version is crucial for something called methylation, which is like a master control switch for everything from detoxing stress hormones to producing neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and GABA. If you don’t methylate well: • You may have a harder time clearing out cortisol, so your body stays in fight-or-flight longer. • You produce less serotonin and dopamine, making it tougher to feel emotionally stable or bounce back from sadness or fear. • Your brain might get stuck in “replay mode,” constantly re-living the trauma or feeling emotionally overwhelmed by it. • Your nervous system becomes less resilient…small stressors can feel like huge threats. That’s why some people with MTHFR mutations feel like they just can’t “get over it” the way others do. Their emotional injuries linger longer. And without support, like targeted nutrition, nervous system regulation, and gentle detoxification, they keep reliving the trauma, even when the event is long over. #cortisol #stress #cortisolcontrol #fatigue #fitness #weightloss #nutritioncoach #personaltrainer #mentalwellness #fitnesstips #fitnessmotivation #GABA #cravings #dopamine #serotonin #mentalfitness #cortisolcoach #wellnesscoach #hormones #gutbrainaxis | Tom Nikkola, CSCS | Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach | Facebook

AVOID THIS ⤵️ Processed foods, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, environmental toxins ✅ Supplements and foods that contain synthetic folic acid and/or cyanocobalamin ✅ Sleep debt and high intensity exercise if you’re feeling fatigued DO THIS ⤵️ ✅ Eat more leafy greens, legumes, and avocados. This will increase your intake of natural folate. Also, increase your protein intake which supports methylation. ✅ Take a high-quality multivitamin that includes methylfolate and methylcobalamin, fish oil, and, ideally, the Happy Juice stack (comment MTHFR for details). ✅ Moderate-intensity resistance training, walking, and regular use of the sauna are essentail for supporting metabolic function and detoxification, which is hampered with the MTHFR polymorphism. #cortisol #stress #cortisolcontrol #fatigue #fitness #weightloss #nutritioncoach #personaltrainer #mentalwellness #fitnesstips #fitnessmotivation #GABA #cravings #dopamine #serotonin #mentalfitness #cortisolcoach #wellnesscoach #guthealth #gutbrainaxis #detox | Tom Nikkola, CSCS | Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach | Facebook

848 reactions · 61 shares | THE MTHFR-MCAS CONNECTION ⬇️ ⭐️SAVE AND SHARE THIS!⭐️ ⭐️⭐️Comment 👉GUIDE👈 for my exact nutrition , lifestyle, and exercise strategy to minimize the effects MTHFR mutations! I couldn’t make this more simple or affordable.⭐️⭐️ There’s a clear connection between MTHFR mutations and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) that could help explain why so many people struggle with chronic symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and unexplained inflammation. MTHFR mutations impair the body’s ability to produce methylfolate, a key player in methylation—a process critical for detoxification, DNA repair, and histamine breakdown. Without efficient methylation, enzymes like HNMT (which help clear histamine) slow down, leaving histamine to accumulate. This creates the perfect storm for mast cells to overactivate, triggering symptoms like flushing, headaches, and gut issues. On top of that, MTHFR mutations often lead to elevated homocysteine levels, driving oxidative stress and chronic inflammation—two major triggers for mast cell activation. Add in factors like gut dysbiosis and stress, both of which can worsen mast cell dysfunction and methylation issues, and it’s easy to see how these conditions feed into each other. So, what can you do? Tackle your MTHFR methylation issues first! ✅Support methylation with a high quality multivitamin with methylated Bs (or bioavailable alternatives if you can’t handle methylated Bs), magnesium, fish oil, D and enzymes - Comment “FOUNDATION” for my recommendations ✅Reduce histamine through diet and natural stabilizers like quercetin and DAO ✅Address oxidative stress with antioxidants. ✅ Eat a higher protein diet and get at least seven hours of sleep every night It’s a complex puzzle, but by addressing these root causes, you can help your body restore balance and calm the cascade of mast cell overactivation. #cortisol #stress #cortisolcontrol #fatigue #fitness #weightloss #nutritioncoach #personaltrainer #mentalwellness #fitnesstips #fitnessmotivation #GABA #cravings #dopamine #serotonin #mentalfitness #cortisolcoach #wellnesscoach | Tom Nikkola, CSCS | Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach | Facebook

These toxins can also disrupt endocrine function and increase oxidative stress. 2️⃣ Hormonal Imbalance: An impaired detoxification system can lead to imbalances in estrogen, thyroid hormones, and other key hormones, potentially worsening conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, and hypothyroidism. 3️⃣ Elevated Homocysteine Levels: The methylation cycle’s disruption causes elevated homocysteine. High homocysteine levels are linked to a higher risk of stroke, heart attack, and other vascular diseases. 4️⃣ Neurological Issues: Homocysteine and toxin buildup increases the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, as well as mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD. 5️⃣ Immune System Dysfunction: A poorly functioning detox system can cause chronic immune activation, leading to conditions such as autoimmune diseases. With a higher toxin load, your immune system may become overwhelmed, triggering inflammation and immune dysfunction. 6️⃣ Gut Dysfunction: MTHFR mutations affect gut function indirectly by contributing to a buildup of toxins that impair gut barrier integrity, lead to dysbiosis, and increase the risk of conditions like leaky gut, which further complicates detoxification. Folic Acid, Disease, Health
439 reactions · 70 shares | It all made sense once I discovered MTHFR runs in my family ….the gallbladder disease, fatty liver, obesity, mental illness, OCD…..It was all related to blocked methylation and synthetic folic acid. And I was heading down the same path - fatty liver, gallstones, extra weight and depression. ✨But by the grace of God I was led to MTHFR. 👉If you have one or more of these, there’s a pretty good chance that you have an MTHFR variation that runs in your family too. The biggest problem for those with MTHFR? Synthetic folic acid (low quality form of folate, B9). Synthetic folic acid can slow/block methylation and cause BIG problems if you have an MTHFR variation, MTHFR is an enzyme that helps to: -Make bile -Make neurotransmitters (mental health) -Detoxify estrogen, cortisol and heavy metals -Help absorb fat soluble nutrients -Repair DNA and cells -Make new red blood cells -Maintain gut health -Reduce inflammation So if methylation is slow or impaired, it can lead to a cascade of health issues. Think you might have an MTHFR variation? 1K reactions · 35 shares | DON’T MAKE THESE MISTAKES ⬇️ ⭐️SAVE AND SHARE THIS!⭐️ ⭐️⭐️Comment 👉GUIDE👈 for my Practical Guide to MTHFR Mutations, an exact plan to minimize this impact of MTHFR Gene Mutations!⭐️⭐️ I’ve worked SO MANY PEOPLE this past year who’ve gotten really bad advice from social media influencers and health coaches about dealing with MTHFR. Many end up megadosing on B vitamins (which often leads to anxiety) while others resort to a plant-based diet with minimal protein. Still others avoid exercise altogether because they’re exhausted, while some think high-intensity exercise is what they need. Interestingly, that often leads to higher anxiety and lower stress resilience, as well. The reality is, with the right approach to nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle, you can end up healthier, fitter, and mentally stronger than most people without the mutations. Eat, supplement and live in a way that builds and maintains muscle, supports detoxification, enhances gut health, and reduces neuroinflammation (that’s the idea with the plan I lay out in my guide). If you do that, you end up with a gut that absorbs and produces B vitamins better, a system that rids the body of toxins that compromise your physical and mental health, and a body with more muscle that keeps blood sugar levels and your mood more stable. And it won’t take long…within a few months you’ll be feeling like a new person! #cortisol #stress #cortisolcontrol #fatigue #fitness #weightloss #nutritioncoach #personaltrainer #mentalwellness #fitnesstips #fitnessmotivation #GABA #cravings #dopamine #serotonin #mentalfitness #cortisolcoach #wellnesscoach | Tom Nikkola, CSCS | Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach | Facebook
