What is Synesthesia?
Synesthesia is a rare condition that not many people know about. It is a condition related to perception and sensation that is introduced in chapter four on page 158. When an individual with synesthesia experiences something with one of their senses it triggers another unrelated sense at the same time. For example, something that tastes bitter may cause them to see the color yellow. There are a variety of types of synesthesia. Synesthesia tends to occur in people who are creative and there are many individuals with synesthesia who choose to pursue the arts. Researchers believe the condition to be genetic. There is record of synesthesia going back to the 19th century. In fact, Charles Darwin's cousin, Francis Galton, noted the existence of the condition in 1880.
