Vivian Maier
American, b. February 1, 1926 in New York, New York, d. April 21, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois. Unknown in her lifetime, Maier's work was discovered by accident when three photo collectors bought her negatives at storage unit auctions in which the contents were sold due to non-payment of rental fees. She used a Rolleiflex medium format camera which was unusual for the genre of street photography. This practice resulted in clear, crisp images. Much of her film remains undeveloped.
