Ice Cube was there from the beginning. Made his first album with the C.I.A. at the young age of 16 and two years after that he was a member of one of the biggest westcoast hip-hop groups; N.W.A. Ice Cube however, left after 1989 because he felt like Eazy-E was holding all the money the made, for himself. Suddenly N.W.A. made diss tracks against Ice Cube, with Ice Cube responding : 'No Vaseline' one of the best diss tracks ever known was recorded. He then released several albums all succesfull.
Felt is a hip hop group consisting of Slug (Atmosphere) and Murs (e.g. Living Legends). The albums they made are named after actresses. The two rappers are both very different; Murs being born in California, but staying away from West-Coast gangster rap and Slug, a rapper from Minnesota who often is focusing on his love life, describing people and other issues. The two made 3 albums so far.
Common (Sense) was born in Chicago in 1972. His debut album was 'can i borrow a dollar' which put Chicago on the map. It is however a very underrated album. His next album 'resurrection' (see my 'albums' board) released in 1994 put Common in touch with the mainstream audience. His album 'be' became a huge hit and everyone knew about common. He became a very popular hip-hop artist and lots of rappers still see it as an honour to work with Common.
Biggie Smalls (Notorious B.I.G.) was one of the most popular artists in the rap world. Being born in New York, his music was mainly east-coast but he made some exceptions (Going back to Cali) Biggie got a unique sound, great flow, awesome beats and it was a shock to the whole world when he got shot, being a victim from the war between east and west...
KiD CuDi gained mayor attention after his hit single 'day n nite' , but what most people don't know, is that he is an awesome artist with really deep tracks. A really different experience from other hip-hop albums i'm used to, but very enjoyable too. He recently stopped smoking weed because it wasn't making him focusing on the important things in life.
Eminem, Marshall Mathers, Slim Shady, whatever Eminem is who he is. Born in poverty, the little white Marshall had struggles living in the black city of Detroit. Made an underground name for himself, got really big due to DrDre and suddenly everyone in and out the States knew about Eminem. His earlier albums are often focusing on heavy drug use, his last albums feature a somehow clean EM and got a different sound (not in my amusement but no hate). Has made tracks with almost every famous rapper.
OutKast, who doesn't know about them? The well known hip-hop duo was originated in Atlanta. Both Big Boi and Andre3000 are seen as pioneers on the field of Dirty South. At the beginning of the career the idea was to establish a mixture between dirty south and g-funk, however this was changed in a mixture of blues, jazz, funk, soul and rock. The two have been using almost every type of genre in their tracks. They split up a few years ago but there are some rumours they might release another album.
Big K.R.I.T. (King Remembered in Time) is a young hip hop artist from Mississippi. He is named as the new king of the south and his style is identical to UGK, Outkast etc. He released his first mixtape 'Krit Wuz Here' in 2010 which brought him some recognisation. A year afther his debut he self-produced a new mixtape: Return of 4eva. The tape got high ratings and K.R.I.T. was born. 4eva Na Day was his third mixtape released on april 10 2012,providing a darker style but also got very high ratings

2pac, the legend. Loved by almost everyone, born in East Harlem (NY) moved to Los Angeles. 2Pac is one of the most appreciated artists and got even more famous after his death (victim of war between east and west). At some point in his life he was good friends with Biggie Smalls, but Biggie accused 2pac for stealing, which caused a row and resulting in the death of both. 2pac only made good albums before his death, he totally deserves the title 'legend'.

Pete Rock & Cl Smooth. One of the best hip-hop duo's there was. Both from New York, they made hip-hop albums with huge influences from jazz & blues. They split in 1995 having creative differences. They're good solo too, but i'm very glad that they reunited after fifteen years of those 'creative differences'.
