Potting soil 1 head garlic Pot Note: Each bulb you plant will multiply, yielding 3-4 new garlic cloves. Get a sizable pot w/drainage holes & fill w/high-quality potting soil. Carefully separate the cloves. Plant about 2.5 cm deep w/tips exposed. Maintain a 10 cm distance b/t each. Add a thin layer (barely 1 cm) of potting soil on top. Put in a sunny spot & water lightly. Garlic requires minimal watering, so maintain slightly moist soil w/o overdoing it. Watch as the shoots grow. If blossoms appear, remove them to preserve the flavor of the garlic. Harvest when the plants have 5 or 6 leaves & they begin to yellow & wither. Dry the harvested garlic in a cool, dry place for about a week. Keep in mind that garlic takes 8-10 months to grow, w/optimal planting periods in early spring or fall.
