Spread the word & share this burping magic trick too. 👇🏻 Here’s the Pro Tip:🌪️movement moves the air! 💨 Newborns cannot move on their own, so they’re more likely to get painful air trapped in the belly. As a former NICU Therapist (& mom of 3!) I know just how awkward can be in the beginning.😅 🫶🏻But I can tell you it DOES get easier! When you suspect they need to burp: thumping can only go so far… This little technique helps gently move the organs and that moves the air. 💡 Always move at a pace that is enjoyable. Your baby will let you know so Observe them closely.👀 Expecting for the first time? 11K views · 3K reactions | Another one of our top posts in 2022! A lot of comments in the original talked about how bouncy this dad is, and yes, that's not needed but some babies really like that movement. Here are 5 suggested ways to hold your baby: 1. Cradle hold 2. Snuggle hold 3. Face to face hold 4. Football hold 5. Belly hold All of these holds are good options for a newborn. Feel free to mix it up until you find a few that are comfortable for you or your partner and your baby. The most important part of any of these holds is to support both the baby’s upper back and neck until they build up strength to support their heads on their own, usually around 3-4 months. If you are unsure, ask your pediatrician! Are any of these your favorite? 1.4M views · 45K reactions | After 9 months of constant jiggling in the womb babies can find stillness alarming, which is why they can struggle to sleep in their bassinet. Here are 3 ways to add movement and help them settle easier in their bassinet. Patting. After swaddling, place them on their side and gently tap their bottom in a rhythmic manner. The side position triggers a calming reflex, making it easier for them to settle. Once they’re in a deep sleep, roll them to their back for safe sleeping. Rocking. Gently rock your bassinet back and forth while keeping a firm hand on your baby. If it doesn’t safely rock, you can place a hand on their tummy and rock them from side to side. Never use rockers, bouncers, or any inclined surfaces for sleep as they’re not safe. Tapping. Give the mattress a rhythmic tap, gradually reducing the speed and firmness as your baby begins to settle. The vibration and repetitive sound help to mimic the comforting heartbeat they felt and heard while in the womb. Why not just place them down fully asleep? Settling them to sleep in their bassinet is a great stepping stone to independent crib sleep. The more they’re settled to sleep there, the more they start to learn that their bassinet/crib is a ‘place for sleep’ and can make future settles easier and easier. But not every nap has to happen in their bassinet for this to work. So don’t feel guilty for those lovely newborn cuddle naps - soak them up while you can!! 🥰 👉 Have a little one under 3 months? Grab our Newborn Sleep Guide, packed with tips on avoiding cat naps, ditching the witching hours, getting great long stretches of night sleep, and much more. “Last night my baby slept 9.5 hours straight woke to feed and went straight back to sleep - we are over the moon with the amazing improvements we have had!” Rose “Having this guide from 3 weeks of age has been a life saver.
