HYPOTHYROIDISM vs. HYPERTHYROIDISM

Thyroid Disorders 🏥 👉 T4: main thyroid hormone 👉 TSH: thyroid stimulating hormone 💤 HYPO = lazy thyroid that needs ⬆️ TSH (get working thyroid!). 🥵 HYPER = overactive thyroid that needs ⬇️ TSH since T4 is ⬆️. 💤 HYPO = SLOW HR/GI motility, cold insensitivity, weight gain 🥵 HYPER = FAST HR/BP, tremors, sweating, weight loss ⚠️ NCLEX TIP: Thyroid storm is a deadly complication of uncontrolled hyperthyroidism. Closely monitor the patient for an elevated temp, altered LOC, arrhythmias, or systolic hypertension. Thank you for being here!
