Atharva-Veda, named after the priest Atharavan, is the last of the Vedas and contains a collection of myths, verses, spells, and prayers prevalent at its time, and is next in importance to Rig-Veda with regard to history and sociology. Portraying a clearer picture of the Vedic society, its hymns are of a more diverse character than the Rig-Veda and are also simpler in language. Completely different from the other three Vedas, many scholars do not consider it part of the Vedas at all.
