We see dead stars still shine their light, To give us peace through caustic night. These shells decay and we take flight. Eternal sky, our souls requite. I'm not ready for the end. The lights come up, but eyes grow dim. I'm not ready for the end. But I'm not ready to begin. Wizened creatures, shriveled skin. Binary stars lose their twin. Mortality, life's greatest sin. Yet fossils foster life again. Brief your sojourn, short your song. Melodies won't linger long. Chords unwrapped in screaming sighs. But love, keep breathing through our sky.

Another dark night and you’re right We have been here before With too many words, we’re perturbed If we hear just one more The stillness, the quiet, the violet Of lights soft and sweet A riot of violence in silence Our souls fail to meet But you take away the pain of every day The way you smile The way you love The sun, the moon, the stars, afar Will shine upon your heart From high above Talking in circles we shirk all the love That we feel It seems so important, we portend Our torment is real But if we pause the seething, our breathing Can bring us ashore Across space and time, it reminds us of What we adore ‘Cause you take away the pain of every day The way you smile The way you love The sun, the moon, the stars, afar Will shine upon your heart From high above You take away the pain of every day The way you smile The way you love The sun, the moon, the stars, afar Will shine upon your heart From high above

You may crinkle a leaf or a twig underfoot, As you wander the forest alone. And you sprinkle some seeds in this wondrous wood, But know this is my ancient home. And your footprints are covered as soon as they fall With the passing of time from my clock. For your story is brief, but I’ll bring you relief As I alter your world and your thoughts. Look at me, you can see, on the floor, I’m a spore. And my tendrils have spawned in the earth. A network I weave you can barely perceive. Yet the trees sing the song of my birth. And I may hypnotize you, or might tantalize through My blood flowing in your veins. With your eyes fully open, your soul won’t get broken. But I promise you won’t be the same. Your mind is a pattern that simply evolved, And delayed your conclusion a while. It lets you see danger, but I’d place a wager - It hasn’t helped foster your smile. There are colors to see and chords that won’t ring With your thoughts tucked away in a box. Come follow the rabbit as you truly inhabit Enigmas from this pale blue rock.

Back on your back with a boot on your throat. You gaze at a tattered pin striped coat. Your dreams borne back east from your safe little home, Have spawned a dark demon from profession’s first tome. The bar reeks of sorrow, and the whiskey’s been tapped. A trick left unturned is a lock on your trap. The bruises ache less with the passing of time. A gem so well-tarnished steals all your shine. The gold has been rushed and you’re left bare to rest For a few fleeting moments by the gun from your breast. But the door will fly open, the blows soon alight - Less gentle than ones that you proffered last night. There’s no wagon to take you any further from here. Your wages don’t make you the price of stale beer. You were tricked by the advert, “Come, entertain!” But the gem took your voice and rewrote your refrain. There’s no family to send for, no friends in this place, Save the other poor girls who all share your face. So you’re left with one chance that a life of grief gave - With no peace in this dance, perhaps some in the grave. You came out to sing and carve out a life, Like so many others lured in by the knife Whose blade remained hidden till you closed the gate. A gem so well-tarnished strips shine from your fate.
5.
You walked away with nothing Save a pocket filled with change It’s so strange - I took for granted This life we had arranged And you told me you were missing me But the world had missed you more So the floor is where I writhe while you Sail on a different shore Are you free? Are you alone? Have you lost your way home? Has the sand inside your shoes Made you lose your steady gait? I can’t wait to see you again But I know we can’t pretend That you’re trying not to lose the you, you are Will you see a thousand pictures That were drawn before we were? It’s a blur - the time we’ve wasted Love’s spell became our curse We were never really promised That we’d even be alive And our thriving is the very thing That tears us up inside You aren’t free You’re never alone But these rooms don’t make this a home When these doors have been ignored By years of disrepair I’m so scared I’ll lose you now But I promise I’m not far For I will always love the you, you are Are you trying not to lose the you, you are? You will never ever lose the you, you are

I could simply treat you sweetly, Or I could offer something else discreetly. I've seen enough to know your game, And there’s no reason to feel any shame. Initially you might be scared. It's natural when you're first ensnared. You'll find it doesn't spell your death, Only a quickening of your breath. You can let go, your heart won't explode. But you may feel a tingling inside. You're safe here my dear. If fear reappears, just look in my eyes. You don't have to hide. You don't have to hide. I'll open up the door to walk through, But entering is up to you. It may entice you to embrace a change, By exploring something somewhat strange. The pain you feel will be replaced By a smile of pleasure on your face. The line between the two is thin, So my love, shall we begin? You can let go, your heart won't explode. But you may feel a tingling inside. You're safe here my dear. If fear reappears, just look in my eyes. You don't have to hide. You don't have to hide.

When the first snowflakes fall, it’s my heart that melts. The gray clouds start biting like a sharp whiskey belt. The sun fades away, and so does your smile. But love, linger with me a while. Love, linger with me a while. The world becomes bitter with indigo night, Sequestered by walls that extinguish starlight. You're searching for warmth in a dark canopy. Love, wrap your cold soul up in me. Love, wrap your cold soul up in me. The frost is a blanket. The world’s a clean slate. But the tyrant of winter seems a beacon of hate. So turn your eyes westward — the ice we will shed. Love, there is light up ahead.

about

Silhouettes I is the first installment of October Ember playing their original music in a stripped down fashion, in contrast to the more intensive studio work that they typically release.
