woodypatof Great album. I hear hints of Big Big Train, Hogarth led Marillion and Opeth (i.e. Delivrance). Volodymyr Agafonkin's voice reminds me of Mikael Åkerfeldt. He sings in Ukranian but, even though I do not understand them, the vocals sound great and fit perfectly with the music. Vidrada will certainly be in my Best Of 2025 album list. Highly recommended.

Nickie Harte Kelly Finally, the full release from this Ukrainian outfit, and well worth the wait. The release is a testament to the hope and beauty that can be found even in dark times and a call for perseverance in the face of grave adversity. Composer Volodymir Angafonkin’s distinctive voice is at the fore, with artful orchestration added to the adept core band. A must for fans of progressive / post-rock / contemporary classical music. Favorite track: Не опускати руки / Don't Give Up.

Dmythro After several spins of the album, I can tell I will return many more times to this one. I see it as a very mature and scrupulous work. Thank you for the tunes and the mood!

P.S. Сподіваюсь побачити ту грушу :) Favorite track: Істини / Truths.
neoakela

neoakela An absolutely gorgeous album. Even without understanding the Ukrainian vocals I can still appreciate the beauty and emotion in every song. If I had to compare, I might say Harmonium's L'Heptade comes to mind at times. Favorite track: Істини / Truths.

wafiii An amazingly powerful, emotive and mature collection of songs expressing the torturous plight of present day Ukrainians. Rarely does music convey the pain, hardship, and hope of a people as well as Vidrada does. Mega kudos Volodomyr and company! Favorite track: Не опускати руки / Don't Give Up.

Sometimes there's an urge Without reason To climb chestnut trees To the top To let yourself go And chase the wind Running through a field Feeling free Deep inside We're children In search of forgotten dreams I'm remembering how to be in love With the world To know that it's all Mine We forgot How it feels To restlessly Wake up in the morning To run into the wilderness To see everything around us As extraordinary And shout about it Through exhaustion Deep inside We're children In search Of forgotten dreams I'm remembering how to be in love With the world To know that it's all mine Somewhere deep inside, the warmth Of a summer that slipped away Lingers still Though everything fades with time We'll carry this little flame Through every autumn Simply Deep inside We're children In search of forgotten dreams I'm remembering how to be in love With the world To know that it's all Mine I'm remembering how to be in love With the world To know that it's all Mine

A crowd of people Empty faces Someone, please — let me in Living by day Sleeping by night Where are you? Teach me We search for a refuge Staring through the snow Something keeps at a distance The people closest to us More and more names Like white noise Not a step beyond the line We live closer Flee from the cities Just to feel meaning again We search for a refuge Yet hear no soul Something keeps at a distance The ones standing on the edge The spell has faded Soon we’ll be old. Headlights shine through windows Where we once lost sleep We drift in thought In a crowded bus Quietly searching For traces of consciousness We stopped dreaming All the bridges burned Drifting far apart Only ghosts remain We walk in different directions Tired and subdued Unable to feel our roots While crows watch us Shared solitude Shared solitude Shared solitude Shared solitude
3.
Where the stars drift before my eyes The hurricane has faded Among distant, towering peaks The hurricane has stilled Where the falcon soars on every wind I forgot my fear Where silence flows endlessly I finally heard myself There, every step leads to freedom And the path to it is chosen There, I can do anything And all the signs will be good All unshaken sorrow Will break loose like an avalanche of snow And the sky will unfold at my feet I have walked countless roads To step beyond my doorstep Through the darkness of countless crossroads I found my Everest There, every step leads to freedom And the path to it is chosen There, I can do anything And all the signs will be good All unshaken sorrow Will break loose like an avalanche of snow And the sky will unfold at my feet Where the hurricane has stilled I have freed myself from heavy thoughts And now, everything is okay

Worn out by the drama I just want to come home soon There, my little comfort awaits It's you No matter what troubles come our way I fear no hardships anymore Because I take my magic remedy each day It's you Summer will pass, and cold will arrive But I’m not afraid of losing warmth again I’ll be embraced by a soft little kitten By you True love can’t be broken With pride I take on this fight So that I can give my love to you Again and again
5.
I’ll sit in my favorite chair Looking out the window And spend the whole day writing A to-do list in my notebook Sort through the things in my drawers Order some new ones And post on social media That I’m alive After the war We will return To our cities To live as we should Playing with children Under clear skies Breathing in the world With full, open hearts I’ll set in motion everything I’ve dreamed of Make a plan for it all I’ll plant a pear tree beneath my balcony Fix the faucet in the kitchen I’ll learn to cook borscht like my mother Make time for all my friends And love my life Madly, endlessly After the war We will return To our cities To live as we should Playing with children Under clear skies Breathing in the world With full, open hearts After the war Let go of the guilt And live every moment to the fullest Where our fields stretch wide Where strength still resounds We'll live in happiness We'll live in happiness
6.
Time flows by, second by second Autumn greets us once again Through puddles of memories We run barefoot under the roof In quiet evenings We wonder if we’ve made it in time Where the edge of the possible lies A fire warms us amid the rainstorms Every drop will change something in the soul Where the rains never cease So that one day, hearing dreams We too may learn from Spring A quiet day swiftly drifts away Can’t catch all the ideas And whatever we grasped A moment’s dust will cover it all Every drop will change something in the soul Where the rains never cease So that one day, hearing dreams We too may learn from Spring
7.
We Are left alone so fast That moment slips by unseen When the ground disappears beneath our feet A moment Where loss comes out of nowhere And we're just powerless witnesses Searching for someone to blame without reason Where is your spring? Fading in dreams A whirlpool Of disappointment and doubt Like a ravenous beast Waiting for the moment to tear at our throats We don’t need to know anything about the chosen target And soon, a crowd is gathering Torches burning to the sound of the war horn We impose our truths We build our walls And in our righteousness, we hear no one around us We shut out the pain Forgot what it means to be human Yet inner peace will never come Tear Break all the borders, crush them It feels so good to be right To raise yourself up and walk over the wreckage And as arrogance devours us from within Our time here grows short Patching the ceiling of an empty castle And though we have food to eat Another’s truth still itches beneath our skin We destroy it all, just to avoid facing ourselves We feign righteous rage Without doubt, without guilt As our metal hearts quickly rust A new day will come soon And yesterday’s pain will fade Let go of the anger that torments you To build bridges once again A new day will come soon (believe) And yesterday’s pain will fade (like a dream) Let go of the anger that torments you (forgive) Make space for beauty (love) A new day will come soon (a new day will come) And yesterday’s pain will fade (the pain will fade) Let go of this anger (just let go) To bring light and beauty to the world (light and beauty) The new day is breaking (it is dawning) The pain is fading (it is passing) Let go of this anger (don’t hold on) Build the bridges (wake up) The pain will fade The pain will fade Soon, the pain will fade Soon, the pain will fade When will this pain fade? When will this pain fade? When will this pain finally fade? When will this pain finally fade? When will this pain finally fade? When will this pain finally fade?

Life is full of surprises One day you turn left Walking on thin ice And your friends are nowhere near You call out with all your strength But they’ve all gone their own ways Though just moments ago You were sharing wine and food One day it will feel unbearable As if you’re trapped underwater A steel tank around you With trouble piling upon trouble Some nights you lie awake till morning Unable to close your eyes And by day, it feels so bad That you don’t even want to go on Who has never known loss Will never understand joy You must take the hit Even though it never comes at the right time Whether you’re sharing a school desk Or watching your grandchildren grow It’s always worth starting again And never giving up Maybe the bricks have crumbled From which you built your future Your jeans don’t fit anymore And failure fills your days But no matter how hard it gets Through yet another downpour A single cup of coffee And you’ll find happiness again Goth, metalhead, or rapper A follower of any faith You must open your heart To the start of a new chapter Whether you’re sharing a school desk Or watching your grandchildren grow It’s always worth starting again And never giving up Never giving up Never giving up Never giving up Everything is still ahead We’ll make it through Soon we will reach The brighter side

about

Obiymy Doschu, a progressive rock band based in Kyiv, Ukraine, presents Vidrada, its third full-length album. Meticulously crafted over seven years, it's a unique blend of melodic progressive rock, lush live strings, influences from jazz, pop, post-rock, and neoclassical music, a touch of melancholy, and bittersweet Ukrainian lyrics.

The title Vidrada translates loosely as joy, refuge, solace. Created amid the hardships of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, the album stands as a testament to hope and resilience, featuring soaring melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and an uplifting message meant to support listeners through difficult times.

The album delves into themes of reconnecting with childhood, finding solace in nature, the meaning of home, the fleeting passage of time, forging human connections in an increasingly divided world, and discovering the strength to persevere through darkness.

Recorded in Kyiv’s top studios, the album was mixed by longtime collaborator Bruce Soord, frontman of The Pineapple Thief. Renowned for his work with modern progressive rock giants like Opeth, Katatonia, Riverside, Leprous, and TesseracT, Soord brings his signature touch to the album’s rich and immersive sound.
