A Sonication

David Fischer An artist's creations should always be measured against the standards they have set themselves. Obscura's standards are high, having released some of the finest technical death metal in history. And in comparison, A Sonication falls short – at least soundwise. The production is washed, muffled, horrible. Musically, I highly enjoy this album, but I cannot help myself but imagine how much better it would sound with the production of e.g. Diluvium, and that is a pity. Great bass, riffs and drums! Favorite track: A Sonication.

Piper Haqim Obscura has found the invisible line between melodeath and tech death and are dancing on it with every album now. They’ve decked some of the melody on this album but you can still hear it peek up from time to time. Ultimately this album is on a whole, a logical step since A Valediction. Favorite track: Stardust.

Soul Strings Amazing, we got "Orbital Elements III" and it sounds good! Favorite track: The Prolonging.

undead_wanderer A Valediction round 2. Still unsure whether that's actually a good direction for the band's style and whether those self-references are actually good for a new Obscura album but I still like this one a lot. Favorite track: Beyond The Seventh Sun.

sashavonkarl74 Very nice release from Obscura, but nothing less was expected from these dudes, that bass is soo juicy, nice! Great production, some say too polished, but it's fine by me. A solid release in this first quarter of 2025, regarding prog-melo-tech death, of course, but the top spot is taken by Burn Down Eden, IMHO :)) Favorite track: In Solitude.
