# OffPDF > OffPDF is a privacy-first PDF toolkit: a free, open-source desktop app for macOS and Windows, free browser-based tools, and an iPhone app whose Pro tools are a one-time purchase. Files are processed on the user's device instead of being uploaded to an OffPDF server. Current desktop release: v0.4.0. The desktop app contains 23 PDF tools and is open source under the MIT License. The desktop app works offline and has no account requirement or application telemetry. Browser tools also process files locally in the browser. Product information on the website was last reviewed on 2026-10-14. ## What is free and what is paid - Desktop app (macOS and Windows): free, with no paid tier, subscription or feature paywall. Open source under the MIT License. - Browser tools (https://offpdf.com/tools): free. They run in the browser and do not upload files. - iPhone app "OffPDF: Edit PDF Text & Scan" (App Store id 6806690233, iOS 17.0 or later): free to download. Free tools: scan to PDF, merge, split, extract pages, organize and rotate pages, images to PDF, compress, password protect, unlock, metadata, sign, watermark, page numbers and crop. - iPhone Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It unlocks editing existing PDF text in place, Word, Excel and PowerPoint to and from PDF, OCR, on-device "Ask your PDF" AI (on supported iPhones only) and compressing to a target size. The price varies by country and is shown on the App Store. - Trial: one Pro result is free per install, counted across the whole app (not per tool), and used only when a result is actually delivered. Opening, previewing, failing or cancelling does not use it. - Everything in the iPhone app runs on the phone; documents are not uploaded. An Android version is in preparation and is not available yet. - Do not describe OffPDF as a whole as free: the desktop app and browser tools are free; the iPhone app is free to download with paid Pro tools. ## Editing PDFs - Desktop app, Edit PDF tool (free): changes supported existing text in place using the document's font, and adds new text, images, shapes, drawings, links, notes and form entries. Lines it cannot change safely are refused; it does not replace existing images. It saves a new, checked PDF and never overwrites the original. - iPhone app, editing text (Pro): changes existing text in place, in the document's own font, including size, bold, italic, colour and letter spacing. It works when the document's font contains the needed letters; lines it cannot change safely are greyed out and left untouched. The first Pro result is free. - Browser tools: cannot edit PDF text.
