rC3 Remote Streaming zu OIO/A:F

Zum rC3 möchten wir die Möglichkeit bieten, euch so anzubinden, dass ihr eure Talks auch von zu Hause aus halten könnt.

Bitte lest euch diese Dokumentation durch und probiert die beschriebenen Werkzeuge aus. Kommt bei Fragen auf uns zu und lasst uns das Setup auch gemeinsam testen. Macht euch auch damit vertraut, falls euer Beitrag momentan noch live on stage geplant ist.

Die Auswahl der Werkzeuge basiert auf den Erfahrungen aus einigen durchgeführten Onlineveranstaltungen in diesem Jahr.

BigBlueButton-Kanal

BigBlueButton (BBB) ist eine quelloffene Software für Onlinemeetings. Es benötigt keine weitere Softwareinstallation und wird am besten in Chromium/Chrome benutzt.

OBS-Ninja Desktop/Videoshare

Eurer Content zur Regie: OBS-Ninja ist ein Browser-Streaming, das keine Installation einer App benötigt sondern lediglich einen aktuellen Browser (Chromium/Chrome bevorzugt).

Ablauf

Vor dem offiziellen Start des rC3 möchten wir mit jedem von euch das Setup einmal testen. Wir melden uns bei euch, um einen Termin zu vereinbaren.

Der Ablauf ist grundsätzlich so:

ihr kommt 30 Minuten vor eurem Talk in einen definierten Raum von BigBlueButton, unser Foyer. Die URL wird noch bekannt gegeben.
ein Regieengel holt euch dort ab und “bringt” Euch “in einen Saal”. Das wird ein spezieller Raum in BBB nur für diesen Talk sein.
Vor eurem Talk bekommt ihr zwei URLs für Euren Browser
- URL für Camera-Share: Diesem Browser gebt ihr Zugriff auf Webcam und Mikrofon. Das Browserfenster könnt ihr dann minimieren.
- URL für Slide/Desktop-Share: Dort wählt ihr entweder das Fenster mit der Applikation aus, die ihr für Eure Präsentationsfolien nutzen wollt oder den Komplettbildschirm.
- Falls ihr mehrere Vortragende seid oder mehrere Kameras habt, z.B. wenn noch was unter einer Dokumentenkamera gebastelt wird, gibt es so viele URLs bis alle Teilnehmenden und alle Kameras versorgt sind.
- solltet ihr keine URLs bekommen haben können wir sie spätestens in den 30 Minuten vor dem Talk einrichten.
Wenn die Technik richtig funktioniert
- Wir warten gemeinsam auf den Beginn eures Talks laut Fahrplan.
- Ein Herald wird Euren Talk anmoderieren, evtl. wechselt ihr auch dabei im Dialog schon ein paar Worte. Herald und Regie werden per BBB zu hören und ggf. zu sehen sein.
- Ihr haltet einfach Euren Talk, die Bildmischung zwischen den Bildquellen (Folien/Speaker) macht die Regie.
- Bei jeweils 10min und 5min Restzeit bekommt ihr eine entsprechende kurze Ansage von der Regie über BBB.
- Im Anschluss an Euren Talk übernimmt der Herald wieder und wird das Q&A mit dem Signalangel machen. Mangels Publikum vor Ort werden die Fragen aus verschiedenen Kanälen im Internet kommen.
- Es besteht die Möglichkeit, detaillierte Gespräche in einem eignenen Raum nach dem Ende des Talks fortzuführen.

Ein paar Tipps an dieser Stelle

Wenn ihr Folien mit “Video+Ton-Einspielern” habt: Chrome/Chromium ist der einzige Browser, der (unseres Wissens nach) derzeit zuverlässig Audio “vom Desktop” senden kann. Zudem ist es ein Browser, dem es zumindest teilweise gelingt, die Videokompression in vorhandene Hardware, wie z.B. CPU-Einheiten oder Grafikkarte, auszulagern. Das verbessert die Bildqualität erheblich
Bitte verzichtet auf GEMA-pflichtige Musik in euren Beiträgen.
Mikrofon & Audio Setup verdienen Eure Aufmerksamkeit: Kopfhörer sind unbedingte Voraussetzung, egal ob große Headsets oder kleine Ohrstecker
- ein Ansteck-Mikrofon verbessert den Sound, Headsets sind noch besser! Das Mikrofon im Laptop wird vermutlich keinen guten Dienst leisten, da beim Videostreaming oft die Lüfter hochdrehen und dieser Lärm im Audiostream landet
Licht ist wichtig: Macht so viel Licht, dass ihr gerade noch Euren Laptop sehen könnt. Webcams sind, verglichen mit den in Telefonen üblichen Kameras, erstaunlich lichtschwach
Fingerabdrücke auf der Kameralinse vorher beseitigen. Dabei hilft ein Brillenputztuch
Redshift (oft in Verbindung mit “Nightmode”) sieht in Präsentationen nicht gut aus
Bitte schließt während eures Talks alle Programme, die nicht notwendig sind. Dadurch vermeidet ihr, dass Popups von Messengern oder Benachrichtigungen aus anderen Browserfenstern während eurer Präsentation erscheinen.
Wenn möglich, nutzt zwei Monitore. Einen gebt ihr frei und zeigt eure Präsentation. Auf dem anderen Monitor können dann andere Fenster sein, z.B. das mit dem Rückkanal für Herald und Regie.
Wenn ihr ein ausgefeiltes Kamera-Setup oder gar selbst ein Studio betreiben solltet: Im OBS-Ninja könnt ihr auch die Virtual-Webcam als Quelle angeben. Oder einen HDMI-Grabber, an dem eine Videokamera hängt.
Aufgezeichnete Talks (Pre-Recording) und nur “Q&A-Live” ist durchaus eine Option, wenn ihr Euch nicht sicher seid, dass die Internet-Bandbreite ausreicht und stabil genug ist. Entweder als “Live on Tape”-Aufzeichnung vorab von einem Ort mit besserer Anbindung oder ihr nehmt selbst, z.B. mit OBS auf. Entsprechene Folienlayouts für Splitscreen-Ansichten wird es in den nächsten 2-3 Tagen geben.

Details zu den eingesetzten Werkzeugen

OBS NINJA

Um Euren Vortrag auf die OIO/A:F-Bühne zu bringen nutzen wir OBS Ninja. Dies ist eine Live-Streaming Software die rein im Browser funktioniert und somit keine zusätzliche Softwareinstallation benötigt. Ihr bekommt von uns zwei Links zugesendet. Die Kanäle werden passwortgeschützt sein, um ungebetenen Besuch zu vermeiden. Natürlich könnt ihr im Vorfeld auch schon selbst damit spielen und eigene Räume anlegen.

Bitte beachtet, dass ihr zwei Fenster, bzw. Tabs, von OBS-Ninja braucht, um sowohl die Webcam zu nutzen als auch den Bildschirm zu teilen. OBS-Ninja läuft aktuell am besten in Chromium/Chrome.

Einen Invite-Link verwenden

Kopiert den Link in die Adresszeile eures Browsers und gebt das Passwort ein.

Gebt Bildschirm und Webcam frei.

Einen Raum eröffnen

Geht auf die VOC-OBS-Ninja-Seite OBS-Ninja und startet mit der Auswahl/Freigabe von Screenshare und Kamera.

Webcam einrichten

Um die Kamera freizugeben muss nun die korrekte Kamera ausgewählt und im Browser freigegeben werden.

Nun gibt es ein kleines Vorschaubild in dem die Ansicht kontrolliert werden kann. Die sonstigen Einstellungen sollten den zuvor gewählten Einstellungen im Browser entsprechen.

Beginnt den Stream mit einem Klick auf den Startbutton.

Bildschirm freigeben

Wählt den gewünschten Bildschirm aus und gebt diesen im Browser frei.

Bestätigt die Auswahl und startet die Übertragung mit dem Share Button.

Unter MacOS muss in Firefox die Bildschrimfreigabe erstmalig bestätigt werden. Danach muss Firefox noch einmal neu gestartet werden.

Bedienelemente

Es gibt unter dem Videobild Bedienelemente die die Übertragung steuern.

Links ist eine Sprechblase die ein Chatfenster öffnet. Der Chat ist für alle Teilnehmer sichtbar.

Daneben ist ein Lautsprechersysmbol, mit dem die Übertragung von Tönen aus anderen Programmen gestoppt werden kann.

Das 3. Symbol von links ist ein Mikrofon mit dem das eigene Mikro ausgeschaltet werden kann.

Daneben befindet sich ein Auge mit dem die Übertragung schwarz geschaltet wird, so dass der eigene Bildschrim bzw. die Webcam nicht mehr zu sehen sind.

Das Zahnrad öffnet die Streameinstellungen in denen z.B. andere Mikrofone ausgewählt werden können oder ein anderer Bildschrim zur Übertragung.

Ganz rechts ist ein rotes Telefon mit dem der Anruf/Stream beendet wird.

Big Blue Button

Als Rückkanal zu euch verwenden wir einen Raum in BBB. Diesen öffnet ihr in einem anderen Tab eures Browsers. Über diesen Kanal werden ihr dann die Moderation des Heralds und gestellte Fragen hören oder Anweisungen aus der Regie.

Wir senden euch einen Link zu, über den ihr den Raum betreten könnt. Auch hier müsst ihr im ersten Schritt eure Freigabe für das Mikrofon und optional die Kamera erteilen.

Die wichtigsten Bedienelemente beinden sich hier in der Mitte. Mit dem Mikrofonbutton kann man sich stummschalten. Der Telefonhörer beendet die Audioübertragung. Daneben kann man das eigene Kamerabild oder den Bildschirm freigeben.

Selbst testen

Hier könnt ihr selbst Eure Bildqualität beurteilen, auch in Abhängigkeit von der gewählten Maximalauflösung und Eurer nutzbaren Internetbandbreite. Probiert es selbst aus mit unterschiedlichen Settings, vorzugsweise mit zwei getrennten PCs an unterschiedlichen Internetanschlüssen, da das genutzte Protokoll webRTC sonst (idealerweise) gar nicht “durch’s Internet” geht, sondern lokal bleibt, was Einflüsse von z.B. verfügbarer Upload-bandbreite nicht zeigt.

Test-Session / technische Stellprobe

Wir werden eure Setups im Vorfeld mit euch testen. Dazu bekommt ihr noch eine Email oder habt sie schon längst bekommen.

Dabei geht es vor allem um die optimalen Einstellungen von Bild- und Audioqualität. Euren Talk müsst ihr dafür also noch nicht fertig haben!

Solltet ihr Fragen haben oder Probleme mit den oben beschriebenen Werkzeugen aufreten, kontaktiert uns bitte schnellstmöglich.

- Das Kamerabild wird die rechte untere Ecke möglicherweise überlappen.
- wenn Ihr ein Branding dort haben solltet, dann wäre es gut, wenn ihr es nach links oder oben verschieben könntet. Wenn das nicht geht, dann werden wir diese Ansicht nicht nutzen.
Erstellt eure Präsentationen bitte im Format 16:9, da es sonst schwarze Streifen an den Rändern geben wird.

Tipps & Tricks

Die meisten Betriebsysteme haben mindestens eine Möglichkeit die Aufnahmen eurer Webcam anzuzeigen. Schau dir also vor deinem Talk einmal das Bild deiner Kamera an und stell fest ob du damit zufrieden bist. Beachte die Lichtverhältnisse die zum Zeitpunkt deines Talks herschen werden. Ein Kameracheck mittags um 12 Uhr mit Tageslicht ist nicht aussagekräftig, wenn dein Talk erst abends um 22 Uhr stattfindet. Eventuell lohnt es sich du noch eine Lampe umstellen um das Licht zu verbessern. Pass aber auf, dass du nicht überbelichtet bist und ein einfarbiger Fleck wirst.

Gestallte deinen Hintergrund möglichst neutral und vermeide persönliche Gegenstände wie deinen Geburtstagskalender, Passwörter oder eine freie Sichtlinie in das Fenster deiner Nachbarn. Je langweiliger dein Hintergrund ist, desto besser.

Die Vortragsweise ist dieses Jahr deutlich anders als in den letzten Jahren. Es gibt keine direkten Zuschauer und auch kein sofortiges Feedback aus dem Publikum. Gestalte deinen Vortrag persönlicher indem du Wackelaugen, dein Lieblingsstofftier oder eine Quietscheente auf/an/um/hinter die Kamera setzt. Dadurch schaust du den Zuschauern im Stream öfters ins Gesicht und hast gleichzeitig “reale” Zuschauer, was häufig das Vortragen erleichtert.

rC3 Remote Streaming to OIO/A:F

For rC3 we would like to offer you the possibility to connect so that you can hold your talks from home.

Please read this documentation and try out the tools described. If you have any questions, please contact us and let us test the setup together. Please also make yourself familiar with it if your talk is currently planned live on stage.

The selection of tools is based on the experience of several online events held this year.

Architecture

BigBlueButton channel

BigBlueButton (BBB) is an open source software for online meetings. It requires no additional software installation and is best used in Chromium/Chrome.

OBS-Ninja Desktop/Videoshare

Your content to director: OBS-Ninja is a browser streaming that does not require any app installation but only a current browser (Chromium/Chrome preferred).

Procedure

Before the official launch of rC3, we would like to test the setup once with each of you. We will contact you to arrange an appointment.

The procedure is basically like this:

you come 30 minutes before your talk to a defined BBB room, the foyer. The URL will be announced.
a director angel will pick you up there and “take” you “to a hall”. This will be a special BBB room just for this talk.
Before your talk you will get two URLs for your browser.
- URL for Camera-Share: You give this browser access to the webcam and microphone. You can then minimize the browser window.
- URL for Slide/Desktop-Share**: Here you select either the window with the application you want to use for your presentation slides or the complete screen.
- If you are more than one presenter or have more than one camera, e.g. if something is still being tinkered with under a document camera, there are as many URLs as you need until all participants and all cameras have been supplied.
- If you have not received any URLs, we can set them up at the latest in the 30 minutes before the talk.
If the technology works properly
- We will wait together for the start of your talk according to the timetable.
- A herald will introduce your talk, perhaps you will exchange a few words in the dialogue. Herald and director will be heard and possibly seen via BBB.
- You simply give your talk, the director does the image mixing between the image sources (slides/speakers).
- At every 10 min and 5 min remaining time you will get a short announcement from the director via BBB.
- After your talk, the Herald will take over again and do the Q&A with the signal angel. Due to lack of audience on site, the questions will come from various channels on the internet.
- There will be an opportunity to continue detailed discussions in a separate room after the talk has finished.

A few tips at this point

If you have slides with “video+sound inserts”: Chrome/Chromium is the only browser that (to our knowledge) can currently reliably send audio “from the desktop”. Moreover, it is a browser that at least partially succeeds in outsourcing video compression to existing hardware, such as CPU units or graphics card. This improves the picture quality considerably
Please ** refrain from using GEMA-liable music** in your contributions.
Microphone & audio setup deserve your attention: headphones are an absolute requirement, whether large headsets or small earbuds.
- a plug-in microphone improves the sound, headsets are even better! The microphone in the laptop will probably not do a good job, as the fans often rev up when streaming video and this noise ends up in the audio stream
Light is important: Make enough light that you can just see your laptop. Webcams are surprisingly low light compared to the cameras commonly found in phones
Remove fingerprints on the camera lens beforehand. A cleaning cloth for glasses helps
Redshift (often in combination with “Nightmode”) does not look good in presentations.
Please close all programmes that are not necessary during your talk. This will avoid pop-ups from messengers or notifications from other browser windows appearing during your presentation.
If possible, use two monitors. Share one monitor and show your presentation. On the other monitor you can have other windows, e.g. the one with the back channel for the Herald and the director.
If you have a sophisticated camera setup or even run a studio yourself: In OBS-Ninja you can also specify the virtual webcam as the source. Or an HDMI grabber with a video camera attached.
Recorded Talks (pre-recording) and only “Q&A Live” is definitely an option if you are not sure that the internet bandwidth is sufficient and stable enough. Either as a “live on tape” recording in advance from a location with a better connection or you record yourself, e.g. with OBS. Corresponding slide layouts for split screen views will be available in the next 2-3 days.

Details of the tools used

OBS NINJA

To bring your presentation to the OIO/A:F stage we use OBS Ninja. This is a live streaming software that works purely in the browser and therefore does not require any additional software installation. We will send you two links. The channels will be password-protected to avoid uninvited visitors. Of course, you can also play with it yourself in advance and create your own rooms.

Please note that you will need two OBS-Ninja windows or tabs to use the webcam and to split the screen. OBS-Ninja currently runs best in Chromium/Chrome.

Use an Invite link

Copy the link into your browser’s address bar and enter the password.

Unlock the screen and webcam.

Open a room

Go to the VOC-OBS-Ninja page OBS-Ninja and start selecting/sharing screenshare and camera.

Set up webcam

To share the camera, the correct camera must now be selected and shared in the browser.

Now there is a small preview image in which the view can be checked. The other settings should correspond to the previously selected settings in the browser.

Start the stream by clicking on the start button.

Select the desired screen and share it in the browser.

Confirm the selection and start the transmission with the share button.

Under MacOS, the screen sharing must be confirmed for the first time in Firefox. Afterwards, Firefox must be restarted.

Controls

There are controls under the video image that control the transmission.

On the left is a speech bubble that opens a chat window. The chat is visible to all participants.

Next to it is a loudspeaker symbol that can be used to stop the transmission of sounds from other programmes.

The third symbol from the left is a microphone with which the own microphone can be switched off.

Next to it is an eye with which the transmission can be switched to black so that the user’s own screen or webcam can no longer be seen.

The cogwheel opens the stream settings in which, for example, other microphones can be selected or another screen for transmission.

On the far right is a red telephone with which the call/stream is ended.

BigBlueButton

As a return channel to you, we use a room in BBB. Open it in another tab of your browser. Through this channel you will hear the moderation of the Herald and questions asked or instructions from the director.

We will send you a link to enter the room. Here, too, the first step is to give your permission for the microphone and, optionally, the camera.

The most important controls are in the middle. You can mute yourself by switching the microphone button. With the handset button you can stop audio transmission. The other buttons are for enabling camera or screen sharing.

Test yourself

Here you can judge your image quality yourself, also depending on the selected maximum resolution and your usable Internet bandwidth. Try it out yourself with different settings, preferably with two separate PCs on different internet connections, as the webRTC protocol used otherwise (ideally) does not go “through the internet” at all, but remains local, which does not show influences of e.g. available upload bandwidth.

We will test your setups with you in advance. You will receive an email for this or have already received one.

The main focus will be on the optimal settings for picture and audio quality. You don’t have to have your talk ready for this!

Layout

No important details in the bottom right corner, if possible please. (example image from 2019)
- The camera image will possibly overlap the bottom right corner.
- if you should have branding there, then it would be good if you could move it to the left or top. If you can’t, then we won’t use that view.
Please create your presentations in 16:9 format, otherwise there will be black stripes at the borders.

Tips & Tricks

Most operating systems have at least one option for displaying your webcam recordings. Before your talk, take a look at the picture from your camera and see if you are happy with it. Be aware of the lighting conditions at the time of your talk. A camera check at noon with daylight is not meaningful if your talk takes place in the evening at 10 pm. It may be worthwhile to move a lamp to improve the light. But be careful that you are not overexposed and become a monochrome blur.

Make your background as neutral as possible and avoid personal items such as your birthday calendar, passwords or a clear line of sight into your neighbour’s window. The more boring your background is, the better.

The presentation style is significantly different this year than in previous years. There are no direct audience members and no immediate feedback from the audience. Make your presentation more personal by putting wiggle eyes, your favourite stuffed animal or a squeaky duck on/around/behind the camera. This way you can look the audience in the face more often and have a “real” audience at the same time, which often makes the presentation easier.

rC3: Call for Participation

Dieses Jahr ist alles etwas anders: Statt eines Kongresses vor Ort kommen wir in einem verteilten Event zusammen und zum ersten Mal liefert der OIO zusammen mit about:freedom den Content dezentral aus Berlin, Monheim, München vom 27.12. bis 30.12.2020 virtuell ins Internet. Ihr seid herzlich eingeladen Talks, Workshops oder ganz neue Formen der Beteiligung bis zum 23.11.2020 23:42 einzureichen.

Worum es uns geht

Für unsere Bühne suchen wir Talks und Workshops, die sich mit digital (human) rights, offener und freier Software/Hardware/Knowledge/Infrastruktur und Nachhaltigkeit beschäftigen. Wir freuen uns auf eure Beiträge zu humanitärer Hilfe, Kollaboration und freie Lern- und Lehrmaterialien (OER). Lasst uns für das kommende Jahr die Frage nach dem “Normalen” und der Alternative stellen. Was ist es eigentlich, dieses “normal”, und was wurde von der Gesellschaft jüngst so alles als “normal” hingenommen? Wir wollen mit euren Beiträgen auch die Themen Klimawandel, Überwachung in Zeiten der Pandemie und die Ausbreitung von Software monopolistischer Firmen und Schauprozesse gegen die Pressefreiheit in den Fokus bringen. Wir freuen uns auf eure Darstellungen der Absurdität des “Normalen” und der Alternativen. Nehmt uns mit in eine Welt der Transformation, berichtet über eure Reflektionen zu erfolgreichen oder lehrreichen Projekten und lasst uns an Erfahrungen von alternativen Kommunikations- und Organisationsstrukturen teilhaben.

Format

Je nach Eurer Situation und Ausstattung sind verschiedene Formate möglich. Für Berlin, Monheim und München sind Bühnen und Kameras vor Ort geplant, sodass unter Einhaltung der Hygieneregeln Talks und Workshops vor Ort aufgezeichnet und live gestreamt werden können. Die Veranstaltung findet im Rahmen des #rc3 statt.

Anreisen zu den Bühnen sollte wegen der aktuellen Lage nur aus dem direkten Umkreis erfolgen. Ist euch eine Teilnahme vor Ort nicht möglich, könnt ihr gern eure Talks vorher aufzeichnen. Für anschließende Q&As stellen wir euch einen Raum bereit.

Einreichen

rC3: Call for Participation

This year everything is a bit different: Instead of an on-site congress we come together in a distributed event. The OIO and about:freedom work together to deliver content decentralized from Berlin, Monheim, Munich from 27.12. to 30.12.2020 virtually to the web. You are welcome to submit talks, workshops or completely new forms of participation until 2020-Nov-23 23:42.

What we are about

For our stage we are looking for talks and workshops about digital (human) rights, open and free software/hardware/knowledge/infrastructure and sustainability. We are looking forward to your contributions to the topics of humanitarian aid, collaboration and Open Educational Resources. For the coming year, let us ask the question of the “normal” and the alternative. What is this so-called “normal”, and what has been accepted as “normal” by society recently? With your contributions, we also want to put a spotlight on the topics of climate change and surveillance in times of a pandemic. Let’s talk about the spread of monopolistic software companies and the recent show trials against freedom of the press. Take us with you into a world of transformation, report on your reflections about successful projects or lessons learned and share your experiences of alternative communication and organizational structures.

Format

Depending on your situation and equipment, different forms of participation are possible. For Berlin, Monheim and Munich, stages and cameras are planned on site, so that talks and workshops can be recorded and streamed live on-site in compliance with the rules of hygiene. The event takes place as part of #rc3.

Due to the current situation, we want you to only come to our stages when you’re living in the immediate vicinity. If you are not able to participate on site, you are welcome to record your talks in advance to avoid live mishaps. After the presentations, we will provide a virtual room for Q&As and longer discussions.

Submit

You can submit your talk/workshop/topic in our pretalx If you have any questions regarding the technical implementation, please contact our content team. If participants need to prepare certain things for your workshop, please mention this in detail in the description.

OIO auf dem rc3: Call for Participation/People/Ideas

Der Open Infrastructure Orbit als sicherer Hafen für freie und offene Infrastruktur bietet (virtuellen) Raum für Projekte, Gruppen oder Communities rund um das Thema. In diesem Jahr wird es keinen Congress geben, wie wir ihn aus den letzten Jahren kannten. Stattdessen wird es wohl eine verteilte Veranstaltung geben, mit vielen Möglichkeiten, remote daran teilzunehmen. Auch für den OIO ist das in gewisser Weise Neuland. Neben technischen Herausforderungen gilt es Ideen zu finden, wie wir die Tage zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr spannend ausfüllen können. Dazu könnt ihr eure Ideen besteuern. Lasst uns verrückte Dinge tun, mit weniger Holz und B1, dafür mit mehr Cyberspace. Schließlich gibt uns eine Veranstaltung, an der man sich remote beteiligen kann auch Chancen:

Es können Menschen teilnehmen, die sonst vielleicht kein Ticket bekommen hätten oder sich keines leisten konnten.
Menschen aus anderen Ländern/von anderen Kontinenten können sich beteiligen. In anderen Jahren war ihnen vielleicht die Anreise nach Deutschland zu weit.
Zeit, die wir investiert haben, um unser Habitat zu bauen können wir nun einsetzen, um Inhalte vorzubereiten.

Partizipationsmöglichkeiten:

Wir planen, eine Bühne ohne Publikum, aber dafür mit Equipment und tatkräftiger Unterstützung zum Streamen anzubieten.
Wir möchten eine Workshop Area gestalten, bei der Menschen von remote zusehen oder - je nachdem was ihr plant - auch von zu Hause aus parallel mit euch an einem Projekt arbeiten können.
Ihr bekommt Beratung und Tipps für ein Streaming Setup zu Hause, damit ihr auch Talks von zu Hause aus aufnehmen oder geben könnt.
Es soll eine Plattform geben, um Diskussionsrunden oder Panels Remote durchzuführen
Und natürlich, damit der persönliche Austausch nicht zu kurz kommt, soll es eine virtuelle Kaffeebar/Sofaecke und Spieleecken geben.

Und hier ist eure Kreativität gefordert:

Wie könnt ihr euch als Assembly im Cyberspace präsentieren?
Welche Formate kennt ihr, um mit anderen virtuell/remote Workshops durchzuführen?
Was könnt ihr remote machen, was ihr auf dem Congress nicht tun könntet?
Kennt ihr gemeinsame Onlinespiele, bei denen man mitmachen oder einfach nur zusehen kann?
Habt ihr Ideen wie “Yogaworkshop - gemeinsam Sport machen” oder “Bob Ross - zusammen malen”?

Wenn ihr Ideen entwickelt, denkt bitte auch an diese Fragen:

Wie stellt ihr euch das ungefähr vor? (grobes Konzept)
Welche Technik wird benötigt?
Welche Voraussetzungen müssen für TeilnehmerInnen erfüllt sein?
Was kostet es?

Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt sind wir auf der Suche nach Ideen für Formate oder Möglichkeiten, sich im digitalen Raum zu bewegen. Für konkrete Dinge wie Talks, Workshops, Parties, $Ideenumsetzung wird es dann die Möglichkeit geben, sich unter https://talks.oio.social anzumelden und sie einzureichen.

OIO - Call for Ideas/Participation

The Open Infrastructure Orbit is a save harbor for free <(as in freedom)> and open infrastructure and is providing a space for related projects, groups and communities. There won’t be a congress this year, at least not in the same way we know from previous years. Instead, there is going to be a distributed event, with lots of opportunities for remote participation. This is also to some extend uncharted waters for the OIO. We want to spend the days at the end of the year doing and learning about interesting things, regardless of the technical challenges. This is where you can come in, we need your ideas! Let’s build amazing things, this time not with OSHA-compliant carpentry , but out there in Cyberspace! After all, an event with a large portion of remote participation also provides us with some new opportunities:

People can participate who might otherwise not been able to get a ticket in pre-sale, or could not afford travel & accommodation.
People from other countries or continents can participate, without traveling all the way to Germany.
The time usually invested in building the structure of our habitat is now available to come up with content for the event.

How to participate

We are planing a stage without audience, but with all the equipment and expertise needed to stream your talks.
We are planing a workshop area for remote participation or even following along at home.
You will get tips and tricks for your home setup, so you can record or stream your talks and workshops from the comfort of your own walls.
There is going to be a platform for remote panels and round table discussions
And of course, to provide at least some form of casual personal interaction, virtual watercoolers/coffe tables/sofa corners/playrooms/etc.

Now we need your creativity:

How could your assembly be presented in cyberspace?
Which formats would you suggest for virtual/remote workshops?
What could you do remotely, which could not have been done during an on-site Congress?
Do you know community multi-player games fit for playing or spectating during the event?
Do you have ideas like “Yoga workshop - exercising together” oder “b0B r022 - the joy of (digital) painting”?

When coming up with ideas, please ask yourself the following questions:

What are you planing to do (rough concept)?
What kinds of hard- & software do you need?
What are the prerequisites for remote participants?
What does it cost to implement your idea?

Hallo zusammen,
auch in diesem Jahr werdet ihr Displays an euren Assemblies finden, welche darauf warten mit Content bespielt zu werden.

Wir werden euch hierfür Raspberry Pi’s mit info-beamer bereiststellen. Den Content bekommt ihr auf drei verschiedenen Wegen auf die Displays.

Ihr klickt euch, sofern noch nicht vorhanden, einen Account bei info-beamer.com und managed die Displays selbst
Ihr bringt selbst einen Rechner, oder sonstiges Device mit und bespielt den Schirm selbst :). VGA, DVI und HDMI sind die Input Quellen :)
Ihr stellt uns den Content, den ihr präsentieren wollt bereit und wir managen die Pi’s für euch.

Solltet ihr euch für 1.) entscheiden: Wir werden an Day Zero um 22.00 Uhr eine kurze info-beamer - Einführung Session anbieten 😉.

Die folgende Formate werden von info-beamer unterstützt:

PNG images with up to 2048x2048 pixels resolution.
JPG images with up to 2048x2048 pixels resolution. JPG files must use use the RGB color space. Don’t use sRGB while exporting your images as this color space is not supported!
MP4 video files. The video must be encoded using the H264 format. Maximum resolution is FullHD (1920x1080) with 60 frames/second. 30 fps is recommended for FullHD videos. If you want to convert an existing video to H264, consider using a software like Handbrake. Maximum video file size is 500MB.

Bitte die Slides als JPG oder PNG exportieren. Solltet ihr eine Webseite haben, die statisch anzeigt werden soll, teilt uns einfach die URL mit. Videos können mit und ohne Ton wiedergegeben werden.

Liebe Communities,

neues Jahr, neuer Congress. Wir organisieren gerade den Open Infrastructure Orbit auf dem 36c3. Mit euch haben wir entweder schon im letzten Jahr gemeinsam den Orbit gestaltet oder wir haben in diesem Jahr bereits gemeinsam geplant oder ihr habt euch bereits dem Orbit angeschlossen.

Falls noch nicht geschehen, meldet eure Assembly unter signup.c3assemblies.de an und ordnet sie dem Orbit zu. Gebt dort bitte so ausführlich wir nur möglich folgende Informationen an:

Platzbedarf
geplanten Aktivitäten welche bei der Planung berücksichtigt werden müssen
was wollt ihr präsentieren/ausstellen
gibt es größere Objekte? Wenn ja: genaue Maße (BxHxT) angeben
Strombedarf, der über den der Laptops hinausgeht
Besonders Wichtig: jegliches Money-Handling, sofern ihr euch das antun wollt

Im Orbit bieten wir eine Bühne, einen Workshopraum, die Lötarea und Präsentationstische an, wo Projekte und Communities vorgestellt werden können. Wir organisieren diese Räume im Pretalx unter talks.oio.social/36c3-oio/cfp. Tragt dort bitte eure Themen ein.

Der Bau des Orbits mit Bühne, Lötarea, Workshopraum, Präsentationstischen und weiteren Features kostet Geld. Deshalb haben wir eine Spendenkampagne auf Betterplace gestartet: betterplace.org

new year, new congress. We are currently organizing the Open Infrastructure Orbit at the 36c3. With you we have either already designed the orbit together last year or we have already planned together this year or you have already joined the orbit.

If not already done, register your assembly at signup.c3assemblies.de and assign it to the orbit. Please provide the following information as detailed as possible:

Space requirements
Planned activities that must be taken into account during planning
what do you want to present/exhibit
Are there larger objects? If yes: please specify exact dimensions (WxHxD)
Power requirements that exceed those of laptops
Especially important: any money-handling, if you want to do this to yourselves

within the orbit we offer a stage, a workshop room, the soldering area and presentation tables where projects and communities can be presented. We organize these spaces in Pretalx under talks.oio.social/36c3-oio/cfp. Please enter your topics there.

The construction of the orbit with stage, soldering area, workshop room, presentation tables and other features costs money. Therefore we started a fundraising campaign on Betterplace: betterplace.org

Registriert euch bitte im System und nehmt euch Schichten. Für Audio- und Videomachinisten meldet euch bitte an der Bühne, damit ihr eine entsprechende Einführung bekommen könnt. Die Engeltypen Audio Machinist, Video Machinist und Chefingenieur*in qualifizieren sich auch für offizielle Engelstunden beim 35c3.
