about
"Workingman’s Folk is about someone you might know, maybe a relative, maybe just a good person who picked a simpler, more comfortable path. It’s about this idea of working hard, but using their work to avoid dealing with some of the more emotional or important stuff in life. There’s a bit of stubbornness in that lifestyle, but there’s also something respectable about it. I think the song tries to hold both of those truths at the same time, honoring the grind while also questioning what it might be covering up."

(Hmm)
I wish my old man would walk through this door
I think I got a few natural ice in that igloo on the floor
Can he be just forty one and grey
I just got a few things to say, before life gets in the way
So just take your time across that field
Stop loving uphill or on icy lakes
Try to take the hands you know
And when you get upset don’t try to fight it alone

(1, 2, 3, 4)
(Ooh)
Father Time may push you around
You’re not afraid to lay your body down
And pull those flowers in the ground
Father Time may push you around
You’re not afraid to lay your body down
And pull those flowers to your crown
No sense in doin’ what I told ya
You never have to fight it alone
No sense in doin’ what I told ya
You never have to fight it alone
(Woah, woah, woah)
(Ahh)
(Woah, woah, woah-ohh)
So just take your time across that field
Stop lovin’ uphill or on icy lakes
Try to take the hands you know
And when you get upset don’t try to fight it alone
And when you get upset please don’t stay home
