The New York Sun is the common name for a major American daily newspaper published in New York City in the 19th and early 20th centuries. (It was also known simply as The Sun.) The name and graphical title has also been revived for a smaller-audience 21st century publication. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)
The New York Sun began publication in 1833. It absorbed various publications over the years, sometimes combining names for short periods. (For instance, it was known as The Sun and the Globe in 1923 and 1924.) It published both morning and evening editions between 1887 and 1920. The paper was published in combination with the New York Herald for part of 1920. No issue copyright renewals were found for this serial. The first copyright-renewed contribution is from March 21, 1930. (More details) It ran until 1950, when it was absorbed by the New York World-Telegram.
