Official Opinions of the Attorneys General of the United States was a publication by the United States Justice Department giving official advice of the US Attorney General to the President and the heads of government departments. The exact title varied somewhat over time.

Publication History

The first volumes of the Attorney General's official opinions was published in 1852, and covered opinions starting in 1791. No issue or contribution copyright renewals were found for this serial. (More details) The last volume we know of was published in 1996, covering opinions from 1974 to 1982. We have not found more recent volumes, but a similar series of official opinions from the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel began in 1977, before this series ended, and continues today. Volume listings below are generally indexed by years of coverage, which are usually earlier than years of publication.
