Abortion Surveillance

Abortion Surveillance is an annual compilation of American abortion-related statistics published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Publication History

The CDC began abortion statistics gathering in 1969, to document the number and characteristics of people obtaining legal induced abortions. Up until the early 1980s, the CDC published statistics under the title Abortion Surveillance Report, and then simply under the title Abortion Surveillance. After 1981, statistics were published as part of the broader serial Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Reports are also published online. Reports do not always include statistics from all states, and at present, California and a few other states are not included in the overall statistics.
