The Afro-American, also known as Afro, is a long running African American newspaper founded in Baltimore. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)
The Afro-American began in 1892. It merged with the Ledger in 1899, publishing as the Afro-American Ledger for some time afterwards, but reverting to its original name in 1915. No issue copyright renewals were found for this serial. The first copyright-renewed contribution is from © March 16, 1940. (More details) It has over time published editions in various cities, and currently publishes Baltimore and Washington city editions as well as a national edition.
