Publication History

Ainslee's began in 1898, succeeding the Yellow Book (originally the Yellow Kid) magazine. All content of this serial is in the public domain in the US. (More details) Ainslee's ran until 1926, when it was absorbed into Far West Illustrated magazine. Ainslee's was later revived for a time in the mid-1930s (being known as "Ainslee's Smart Love Stories" for part of that period).

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1898-1926: The Internet Archive has nearly all issues, in black and white, scanned from microfilm. As of May 2023, some issues from volume 30 were missing.
• 1899-1903: HathiTrust has volumes 3-10.
• 1903-1906, 1908-1914: HathiTrust also has volumes 12-17 and 21-33.
• 1905: Project Gutenberg has selected issues from volumes 15 and 16.
• 1926: Project Gutenberg has an illustrated transcription of The Last Laugh by D. H. Lawrence, which appeared in the January 1926 issue.
