The American Genealogical-Biographical Index to American Genealogical, Biographical, and Local History Materials

The American Genealogical-Biographical Index to American Genealogical, Biographical, and Local History Materials is a series of volumes indexing names found in various American genealogy-related sources, and listing where they are mentioned. This began as a followup series updating the 48-volume "American Genealogical Index" published between 1942 and 1952. (Hence, the prefaces sometimes refer to this work as the "second series"). It is published by the Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown. CT.

Publication History

The first volume of this series was published in 1952. Early volumes were edited by Fremont Rider, who edited the original American Genealogical Index. No issue or contribution copyright renewals were found for this serial. (More details) The series reached volume 200 in 1999, and as of 2019 was up to volume 206. A supplement series began in 2000 and has reached at least 20 additional volumes. Updates may be continuing online and in further print volumes.
