American Standard

American Standard was a weekly newspaper published in San Francisco, affiliated with the 1880s American Party. This American Party, largely based in California, was distinct from the Eastern-based "Know-Nothing" American Party of the 1840s and 1850s. However, it shared many of the same anti-immigrant sentiments of that earlier party, in this case largely directed against Chinese and other immigrants to the American west coast.

Publication History

American Standard appears to have begun publication in 1888. It ran until 1891, the last year that the 1880s incarnation of the American Party appears to have fielded candidates.
