Publication History

The Astrophysical Journal began publishing under that title in 1895, succeeding Astronomy and Astro-physics. The first copyright-renewed issue is July 1953 (v. 118 no. 1). We know of no actively copyright-renewed contributions. (More details) It is still published today.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1895-1928: HathiTrust has volume 1-68 freely readable online. Some later issues are available for search only.
• 1895-1995: The SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System appears to have articles up to 1995 free to read online on their site. (Access to later articles may require subscription or payment.)
• 2022: The Institute of Physics' website has volume 924 and later available open access. Access to earlier issues may require subscription or payment.
