The Best Short Stories of [the Year], and the Yearbook of the American Short Story was an annually issued collection and bibliography of American short stories, edited by Edward J. O'Brien.
The Best Short Stories of [the Year], and the Yearbook of the American Short Story began publication with a collection and bibliography of 1915 short stories. The year being reviewed was included in the title of each volume, which typically was published the following year. After O'Brien died in 1941, Houghton Mifflin, which had published the series since the 1930s, issued additional volumes under the title "Best American Short Stories". That series continues today.
