Boston Medical and Surgical Journal was the name of an American medical journal between 1828 and 1928, since then published as the New England Journal of Medicine.
Boston Medical and Surgical Journal was formed by the union of the New-England Medical Review and Journal, and the Boston Medical Intelligencer. Its first issue (volume 1, number 1) was dated February 19, 1828. New series numbering was introduced in parallel in 1868 and dropped after 1872. The last issue published under this name was volume 197, number 33 (February 16, 1928). The next weekly issue (volume 198, number 1), and every issue since, has appeared under the New England Journal of Medicine name.
