The Century Magazine began publication in 1881, as a successor to Scribner's Monthly Magazine. The first volume was "volume 23", following the Scribner's numbering, and also "new series volume 1". The first actively copyright-renewed issue is February 1929 (v. 117 no. 4), © January 19, 1929. The first actively copyright-renewed contribution is from February 1929. (More details) In 1930, The Century Magazine merged with The Forum to form Forum and Century.
