The Citizen

The Citizen was the official journal from 1961 onward of the Citizens' Councils of America, a white supremacist organization based in the southern US.

Publication History

The Citizen began in October 1961, succeeding a newspaper called The Citizens' Council. No issue or contribution copyright renewals were found for this serial. (More details) The Citizen ran until 1989, by which time the Citizens' Councils of America had been absorbed into the Council of Conservative Citizens. (That group continues to exist today, though it does not publish this magazine.)

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1961: The University of Mississippi has the October 1961 issue, the first to be published.
• 1962: The University of Mississippi has the September 1962 issue, labeled volume 6 number 11.
