Classics Illustrated
Classics Illustrated was an American series of comic books based on classic literature. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)
Publication History
Classics Illustrated began in 1941 as Classic Comics, and the first 34 issues were originally published under that title. The series was retitled Classics Illustrated in 1947, and previously published issues were reprinted under that title. Most issues were reprinted multiple times, sometimes in revised form (and sometimes with fewer pages than the original). The first actively copyright-renewed issue is no. 33, © 1947. We know of no actively copyright-renewed contributions. (More details) The original run ended in 1969, though the name has also been used more recently for new adaptations by other publishers. Comics below are listed in series order, using either the year of the specific edition (if known), the copyright date (if given), or else the year of the original printing.
