Demography

Demography was a series published by Australia's Bureau of Census and Statistics in the 20th century. The exact title varied somewhat over time.

Publication History

The earliest Demography bulletin we are aware of was published in 1920, was titled "Commonwealth Demography", and covered 1919 and previous years. It was number 37 in the series "Population and Vital Statistics". Some later bulletins were titled "Australian Demography", and eventually simply Demography. We are not aware of issues of Demography published after the 1970s, but Australia continues to collect and publish demographic statistics through its Bureau of Statistics.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1919-1924, 1928-1939: HathiTrust has Bulletins 37-42 and 46-57 freely readable online. Some later Bulletins may be searchable but not readable online here.

Official Site / Current Material

• The Australian Bureau of Statistics website includes current and recent demographic statistics for Australia. We have not to date found issues of the Demography series on this website or on other Australian government websites.
