Publication History

The Elementary School Journal began in 1900 as The Course of Study. It was renamed The Elementary School Teacher and Course of Study in 1901, and The Elementary School Teacher in 1902. It adopted its present title in 1914. It followed a consistent volume and issue numbering throughout. The first copyright-renewed issue is December 1941 (v. 42 no. 4). We know of no actively copyright-renewed contributions. (More details) It is still published today.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1900-1929: HathiTrust has volumes 1-29 readable online. Some later volumes are searchable but not readable.
• 1900-1901: JSTOR has volume 1, published as The Course of Study.
• 1901-1902: JSTOR has volume 2 and volume 3 number 1, published as The Elementary School Teacher and Course of Study.
• 1902-1914: JSTOR has volume 3 number 2 through volume 14, published as The Elementary School Teacher.
• 1914-1929: JSTOR has volumes 15-29, and the first 4 numbers of Volume 30 freely readable online, and provides paid or subscription access to later volumes.
