Gazette of the United States

Gazette of the United States was an American Federalist newspaper published in the 18th and early 19th century. The full title varied somewhat over time. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)

Publication History

Gazette of the United States began in New York in 1789, and moved to Philadelphia in 1791. It suspended publication in October 1793, but returned in December as the Gazette of the United States and Evening Advertiser. The name shifted to Gazette of the United States and Daily Evening Advertiser in 1794, and then reverted to Gazette of the United States in 1795. It was called Gazette of the United States and Philadelphia Daily Advertiser from 1796 to 1800, the Gazette of the United States and Daily Advertiser from 1800 to 1801, and Gazette of the United States once again from 1801 to 1804. In 1804 it was renamed United States Gazette, which ran until 1818.
