Publication History

The Methodist Protestant Church was initially organized in 1828, and nationally organized in 1830. It held general conferences periodically until the Methodist Church merger and reorganization of 1939.

• The United Methodist Church is the current successor of the 1939 merger involving the Methodist Protestant Church. It still holds general conference sessions every 4 years.
• The Mississippi conference of the Methodist Protestant Church did not take part in the 1939 merger, and continued using the Methodist Protestant Church name for their churches, and churches in other states that joined them. Their website has more information about them and their activities.
