Life

Life was a mass-market pictorial magazine published in the 20th century by Time, Inc. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)

Publication History

Henry Luce, publisher of Time, launched his version of Life in 1936. (He had bought an earlier magazine of the same name, which we list separately, but only kept the name, with the old magazine's features and subscribers going elsewhere and the volume and issue numbering restarting at 1.) The first copyright-renewed issue is November 23, 1936 (v. 1 no. 1). The first copyright-renewed contribution is from May 24, 1937. (More details) Life ran as a weekly until 1972, and then ceased publication. It was revived as a monthly in 1978, but that run ended in 2000.
