Proceedings of the Massachusetts Historical Society

Proceedings of the Massachusetts Historical Society was a long-running American journal of historical scholarship.

Publication History

Proceedings of the Massachusetts Historical Society began to be published in 1859, starting by retrospectively publishing papers as far back as 1791, and eventually catching up to current scholarship. A second series began in 1884. A third series began in 1907, but soon adopted continuous numbering from the start of the Proceedings (so that volume 2 of the third series was also known as volume 42). Eventually volumes were labeled only with their number from the start. The first actively copyright-renewed issue is October 1957-December 1960 (v. 72). We know of no actively copyright-renewed contributions. (More details) Proceedings of the Massachusetts Historical Society ran until 1997, when it was replaced by the Massachusetts Historical Review.
