Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science

Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science is the original name of a British microscopy and microbiology journal now known as the Journal of Cell Science.

Publication History

Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science began publishing in 1853. A new series began in 1861. Ownership was transferred to the Company of Biologists in the 1940s, which renamed the journal to the Journal of Cell Science in 1966. (That journal is listed separately.) It is still published today.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1853-1965: The Journal of Cell Science website gives free access to articles published during the full run of the Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science, as well as much of the Journal of Cell Science run. (More recent JCS articles may have restricted access.)
• 1853-1880, 1882, 1885-1888, 1891-1928: HathiTrust has the first series, and new series volumes 1-20, 22, 26-28, 32-37, and 39-71 online, scanned from holdings at Cornell University. Later volumes are searchable but not readable online at this location.

• The current Journal of Cell Science website has information about the journal, and provides complete subscription-based access to current and recent issues, and possibly free access to older issues.
