Southwestern Reporter

Southwestern Reporter, also known as the South Western Reporter, is an edited compilation of US state court rulings and opinions from Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas, published by West Publishing, now part of Thomson Reuters. It is published in multiple editions, initially in individual issues or online files, and later in "permanent edition" bound volumes. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)

Publication History

Southwestern Reporter began in 1886. A second series began in 1928, and a third in 1988. It is still published today. The first actively copyright-renewed issue is October 10 - November 28, 1928 (series 2, v. 9 permanent edition), © January 8, 1929. We know of no actively copyright-renewed contributions. (More details) Judicial rulings and opinions are in the public domain in many states, but some states may claim copyright over them, and West also claims copyright over the notes it adds.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1886-1922: HathiTrust has volumes 1-242 of the first series, scanned from various universities.
• 1886-1928: HathiTrust has volumes 2-204 and 206-300 of the first series, scanned from the University of California. Access to some volumes may be restricted outside the United States.
• 1928: HathiTrust has volumes 1-2 and 4-7 of the second series, scanned from the University of California. Access may be restricted outside the United States. Some later volumes may be searchable but not readable online here.
