Population Schedules of the Census of the United States

Population Schedules of the Census of the United States is a publication of the tables recording information on every person residing in the United States at the time of its decennial census. (The exact title may vary.) These tables are made public 72 years after each census was conducted.

Publication History

The US Constitution requires a census to be taken every 10 years. The first was taken in 1790. The most recent was taken in 2010, but the most recent census that has its schedules published was taken in 1940. The years in listings here designate the dates of the censuses, not the dates of publication.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1790-1930: The Internet Archive has scanned microfilms for the first 15 decennial censuses (1790-1930). The 1890 census tables are incomplete due to a 1921 fire that destroyed many records. The Internet Archive index page also links to tables for selected Indian censuses taken from 1885-1940.
• 1940: The National Archives has scanned pages for the 16th decennial census (1940).
