Uncle Tom's Cabin is an antislavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, published in the early 1850s. A best-seller, it popularized the abolitionist cause in the United States in the run-up to the American Civil War. Bibliographic notesUncle Tom's Cabin was first serialized in The National Era beginning in 1851. In book form, it was first published in two volumes in 1852. A variety of popular editions, abridged children's editions, dramatizations, and other related works followed. We know of attempts to ban this work. See also
